That project was abandoned quite a while ago.  BlueDV is the only remaining one that is still under development that I know of currently

I only found HBlink example ..  Could not rename it after  making the one line change

Re: Absolute beginner Thumb-dv

You should have been able to rename the file. There's no reason why it would not rename. Did you get my separate post about how to do this, by right-clicking on the file in the file explorer, and choosing "rename" from the popup context menu? That should work. When it "lights up" the name and puts your cursor there, just right-arrow to the end of the name past the ".example" and backspace over it so it just says "HBlink.txt", then press enter.

Alternatively, when you have added the line, click on "File", and choose "Save As..." from the pull down menu, then save it as HBlink.txt and click OK.

You need to select software to use. I recommend BlueDV for Windows. Do a Google search, easy to find. Install the software. Launch the software, go into setup. Look under com port and see if it sees the com port.

Did you edit HBLink.txt or HBLink.txt.EXAMPLE?

You have been a great help . Unfortunately adding that line to HBlink and saving then restarting  the  blue dv  did not add tgif to the choices . I could not for example  change " descriptive , " example" in the HB links  comments section .

Don't give up so easily. I've had mine working fine on BlueDV for Windows fairly easily.

Re: Absolute beginner Thumb-dv

In File Explorer, when you RIGHT-click on a file, you get a menu of options. "Rename" lets you change the filename, what you're calling its description. You'll need to open that file in Notepad as I said, then copy this: TGIF, 74.91.125.81, passw0rd, 62031 and paste it on its own new line at the bottom of the file. Then save the file and restart BlueDV. That's when you'll see the option for TGIF in the DMR+ pull-down pick list in the middle of the setup screen.

I don't know how to explain it better than this, I'm sorry.

He mentions that he can see the firmware field get populated.   This is indication that he has the correct COM port selected and is communicating with the ThumbDV.   You wouldn’t see the 3000R show up under firmware if it were not.

What software are you using? I recommend BlueDV for Windows. You need to determine what com port it is using and set that accordingly in the setup.

Yes I made the  change to HBlink , but could not edit its description away from "Example" .  Tried to find  the TGIF  " in the middle of the screen"  and  could not pull up that option .

Re: Absolute beginner Thumb-dv

If you've installed BlueDV on your machine, the folder is automatically created under your documents folder.

Teaching you how to use Windows 10 isn't within the scope of what your fellow users (such as me) can take on here. I did a quick Googlewhack, and found a basic Windows 10 tutorial, that might help you with how to navigate your file system.

Give this a look and see if it helps. I suggest taking the time to learn what you know you're deficient in, because it's not going to get any simpler from this point out. Doing anything with a computer in our increasingly wired society will pretty much require that you learn if you're going to do anything with computers at all. Good luck, and I hope you finally get it to work to your satisfaction.

Time for my lunch! Take care!

Re: Absolute beginner Thumb-dv

S. Wilk, here's a screen shot of my .\Documents\BlueDV folder, with arrows to what to do. Please note that there are NO SPACES in that path. It's "BlueDV", not "Blue DV", and you open that folder in the FILE EXPLORER, not the browser. To open the file in Notepad, right-click on the file name and choose "Open With...". It'll give you a list of programs to open it with, and one should be Notepad. Left click that, and I think you click the OK button at the bottom of that popup. (Or double-left-click Notepad) That should open the file in Notepad.

The rest of the instructions should be fairly clear.

Re: I want a refund !

Kevin's 99.9% correct. One thing that may be giving you issues is that there isn't an HBLink.txt file when you first install. Instead, there's a file named HBLink.txt.example. You need to make a copy of that file and remove the .example from the end so it's just named HBLink.txt. Then open that file in Notepad and edit it as the documentation says. I also gave some more details above.

Click on file explorer on the bar at the bottom of your screen, click on Documents link on the left side.  You will see the BlueDV folder.  Double click that one.  Now you will see your HB file that needs to be edited.  If you press the Windows key and the press the letter R the run box comes up.  Type notepad and then press enter.  You should be able to the click on File and open and navigate to the Documents\BlueDV folder and select the HB file.  Make changes and then click on File, then save as, and type the name of the file per the instructions.  You have now added TGIF to your DMR+ list.
