The entry should be in the DMR+ pull-down menu if you entered that line correctly in the HBLink.txt file. If the filename is still HBLink.txt.example (all three words, separated by periods), then it WILL NOT WORK. You have to rename the file to REMOVE the word "example" from the end and the period between it and the "txt", so it just says "HBLink.txt".

Here's a video showing how to rename a file in Windows 10.  https://youtu.be/jXd0yFHRM24

Just a thought but wouldn't it be safer to create a brandmeister.network self-care account, create a custom password and use that instead?  Seems like anyone could just grab a random DMR ID/callsign and use it to talk with the default brandmeister password instead right? I changed mine to my own password and that's the only way I can log into a master server now and that makes me feel better.  Or am I completely wrong?

There is a gentleman named Doug McClain ( AD8DP ).  A really good guy.   He is working on something  similar to BlueDV.     He calls it DudeStar.

It works pretty well as far as I can tell.   But there are many areas where he’s still working on it.   It is still pretty beta at this point.

There is  a Windows build of it available on GitHub.

Thanks!

Kevin, correct just rely on the OS native FTDI and I do use the USB-c adapter.  I have a port expander I use especially to give me an hdmi port.  Using the USB ports on it for the thumb drive don’t work, but using just the c adapter does.

Hi Ted,  don’t know exactly what you mean by an extender. MacBook Pro has USB-C only ports, so one must use a USB-C to USB-A adapter in order to plug it in.

Also not sure how to identify a FTDI conflict In OSX. Based on the system report I shared above it looks like it’s being seen by the OS. I read you’re not supposed to load FTDI’s drivers on a Mac, just let the native driver in OSX take care of it.  I was hoping to simply run this on my Mac laptop without doing Ambe servers on a Raspberry Pi.  We’re not all software gurus, hi hi. Perhaps I just need to be patient as Bryan said the software writer will be looking at the issue soon...  Thanks for the comments.

Haven’t been following much of your kerfuffle but I did notice this.  The original HBLink.txt file was probably in the filesystem as “HBLink.txt.EXAMPLE” - e.g., the extension was EXAMPLE and not TXT.  At least that’s how it appears to me as someone who has a nodding acquaintance with Windows filesystems and none at all with the ThumbDV software.  Windows specializes in keeping you from doing what you want to do especially when what you want to do is instructed by people who know more about the Windows filesystem than you do.

Good luck.

Here are two solutions for you...

Perform only ONE of the following options:

<Option1>
-Copy this HBLink.txt file and save to>  C:\Users\'username'\Documents\BlueDV   <-replace 'username'  with your username that you use to log into Windows with. (note: this is your Windows"Documents" folder)
-Run BlueDV. Select 'Menu' -> 'Setup'  then select TGIF from the (Master)list in the DMR+ section.

OR

<Option2>
-Copy the text below, and "Save As" HBLink.txt
-Make sure that it is saved into the 'Documents -> BlueDV' folder as in Option1.
-Run BlueDV. Select 'Menu' -> 'Setup'  then select TGIF from the (Master)list in the DMR+ section.

#By David PA7LIM -
#Rename this file to HBLink.txt
#Select DMRPLUS in BlueDV setup and choose your HBLink master.
#Logicalname, ipaddress, password, port
HBlink1, 123.123.123.123, passw0rd, 62031
HBlink2, secret.mydomain.nl, passw11rd, 55555
HBlink3, secret2.mydomain.nl, passw11rd, 55555
TGIF, 74.91.125.81, passw0rd, 62031

Yes  I am  using Blue DV  Good program except for this little kerfuful I am having with it .

Re: Absolute beginner Thumb-dv

I can not get rid of "EXAMPLE "  when I try to , the only option I get is to over write  HBLink.txt. Example  and  "EXAMPLE"  is in another  field  labeled Type  which I can not change . .   I can not  create and add a file called  HBLink.TXT.  to the  down load and then copy and paste to HBLink.txt   " example " ..   Thank You .

Re: Absolute beginner Thumb-dv

 The  HBlink.txt   line  looks like this  " HBLink.txt      2020-05-07 00-31    EXAMPLE File      1KB...

I can "rename"  to  HBLink.txt     But I cannot get rid of the                       EXAMPLE File ( type )
And  It wont  change ....... I can go back into  the             HBLink.txt         EXAMPLE File  ... and I see the line I added ..   I think I need to modify the  type , but i can not  seem to do this .

Just be careful of patent violations for AMBE+2™ (DMR, YSF, ...) as it looks to be using a software implementation.

My thumbdv is also running great in remote mode accessible to multiple devices, inluding my android phone. The phone runs bluedv for Android.  The ambeserver is running on ubuntu 20.04 the latest LTS release.

I’m also a Mac/Catalina user. I moved my ThumbDV to a Pi and run Ambeserver, then Buster can access the ThumbDV over the network.

Works great and I can run it from any Mac in the house or even over the Internet!

Odd. Here's what the Mac System Report says:

ThumbDV:

  Product ID: 0x6015

  Version: 10.00

  Serial Number: D307T3AG

  Speed: Up to 12 Mb/s

  Current Available (mA): 500

  Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

Hoping there will be a solution for Mac Catalina at some point in the near future.

I am successfully running Buster under Catalina but the thumb drive must be plugged directly into a computer port, not an extender.  Also make sure you don’t have an FTDI conflict.
