RPi3, DummyRepeater, ircDDBGateway
ne3k@...
So moving this over here from the Yahoo! group, I am having a devil of a time getting a RPi3 up and running to use DummyRepeater and ircDDBGateway with a PiDV Board. I've followed the AMBE Wiki directions that John sent, and have gotten AMBEServer running on the Pi3, as proven by the ambesocketest.py script giving me the expected returns. ps ax | more gives the following: PID TTY STAT TIME COMMAND 1 ? Thank you John & Richard now booting from hard drive (via sd card) cheers jim g7icd

Re: Hard drive

Yes, you can use the SD card just to get the machine started. I do this and use a Solid State Drive (SSD) for a couple of my Pis - especially for servers that are 'always on', the SD card eventually gets fried with too many writes to the same locations for log files and such.

There's a set of instructions here: https://learn.adafruit.com/external-drive-as-raspberry-pi-root/what-youll-need You basically copy the SD filesystem to the hard drive, then alter the /boot/cmdline.txt file on the SD card to point to the hard drive. Not trivial, but not really difficult either. You're welcome to contact me if you have problems doing it. - Richard, VE7CVS

Re: Hard drive
Here is a tutorial (I have not used this, but the concept is clear) There is some work going on at Raspbian development to make network or external drive boot much easier.

Now i have the dstar pi2 and thumbdv all working is there away i can transfer it all on to a harddrive (i have a 250g usb) so it uses the sd card for bootup but then reads all the other files from hard drive? or is to much for a novide to do ? cheers jim

This page has a good picture of the Raspberry Pi GPIO pinout.
http://www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2012/06/simple-guide-to-the-rpi-gpio-header-and-pins/ The pins are definitely 1,3,5,7... in a row. - Richard, VE7CVS

Jim <g7icd.jim@...>
i found the post and tryed it yesterday i connected a wire to pin 3 but dummy repeater stopped working i have to reindtall the back up image now today i looked and i am a bit lossed some images of the GPIO are 1 2 3 on bottom row or 1 3 5 on bottom row i used the 1st one 1 2 3 and it didn't work but do not want to try again until i can validate which pin is pin 3 cheers jim

tx dummyrepeater

Updating DPlus_Hosts.txt to use REFxxx DNS entries
Anything that uses ircddbgateway Here is a little procedure to change all IP based REFxxx references to use their DNS name instead. (For Compass Linux location for DPlus_Hosts.txt file) == watch for line wrap in email cd /usr/share/opendv sudo cp DPlus_Hosts.txt DPlus_Hosts.txt.old sudo sed 's/^REF\([0-9]\+\)[[:space:]][^a-zA-Z]*$/REF\1\tref\1.dstargateway.org/' <DPlus_Hosts.txt >DPlus_Hosts.txt.new diff DPlus_Hosts.txt DPlus_Hosts.txt.new # Shows the changes
sudo mv DPlus_Hosts.txt.new DPlus_Hosts.txt Restart ircddbgateway/ircddbgatewayd, e.g. for the daemon sudo systemctl restart ircddbgatewayd.service [Larry -- there may be more involved for you, but try this first.]

Re: thumbdv and rasberry pi 2
Darren Storer says that the REF001 address should always be referenced by its domain name ref001.dstargateway.org (which means it may change physical IP address from time to time). Edit DPlus_Hosts.txt and comment out or replace the old REF001 and replace it. # DPlus_Hosts.txt # # The format of this file is the name of the reflector/gateway followed by its # IP address. # #REF001 192.3.202.54 REF001 REF001.dstargateway.org On Compass Linux the file is located in /usr/share/opendv You might want to do this for all of the REFxxx reflectors.

Re: thumbdv and rasberry pi 2
You should be able to select NETWORK and the IP address and PORT of your AMBEserver. No additional software (beyond AMBEserveer) required.

Re: thumbdv and rasberry pi 2
Tom Cichowicz <tcichowicz@...>
Not sure if it's related but 1C reflector has been VERY problematic these last few days it had dropped link more than 20x yesterday, other operators confirming the troubles. My dv mega hotspot reconnects/links automatically, but my winDV node with ThumbDV requires a manual connect. Just an FYI
