Thank you, that's clear now. It seems I'll have to code ;-)

The AMBE 3000 chip will process D-STAR AMBE just fine, the protocol for talking to the chip is different.

AMBEserver is using the newer AMBE3000 chip from DVSI. When Scott wrote his code the predominant AMBE solutions used older chips (usually USB attached) with a different setup and byte flow to process

Thanks J.R.
I thought about looking at the source code out of curiosity but decided that was way above my pay grade. If adding a couple of XREFs isn’t too difficult, I might follow your lead and

I guess the only thing else I could suggest is making sure you are connecting to the correct port. I have a bunch of them connected on some Macs.
Regarding 10.12.4 beta, this is a first for me. I

Craig-
Thanks! I double checked and do not have the FTDI drivers installed. I did boot into my Bootcamp partition and all is well with the ThumbDV in Windows. I'd prefer to run MacosX, however.

I’m using ThumbDV with Buster on OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan and it’s working just fine and continues to have voice so long as in Preferences > Audio > Announce Reflector Status Change is checked.
