Re: PI3 and DV3000U
Ian
Problem solved; I have an error with my ThumbDV. I tried WinDV - it didn't recognise my ThumbDV; I tried Buster - it didn't recognise my ThumbDV; I have contacted my supplier. Thanks for the pointers and info, I'll be up and running shortly. Regards, Ian..

I was thinking that I needed some type of sound card. I hadn’t thought of splitting dummy repeater from the gateway. Thanks again.

Hello, I am pleased to report I am now up and running with CompassLinux ( GUI version ) and ThumbDV on the RP13. Thanks for the help and suggestions. My next move will be to CompassLinux ( no GUI ) and connect to a URI . Regards, Ian..

Re: PI3 and DV3000U
Glad to hear. Have you looked at the UDRC in lieu of the URI?

Yes I have; for my Direwolf " project ". I currently have Direwolf running on a BBB and am looking to move that to a Pi and " speed up " from 1k2 to 9k6; I have a spare URIx, hence the reason for using it. Regards, Ian..

Pi3;ThumbDV and Baofeng..
Ian
Thought I'd share this; Now that my ThumbDV is up and running and I'm getting good audio reports I thought I would " experiment " with some Baofeng radios. ( I like them because you can tear them to bits and if they don't work afterwards, it's no big deal. ). OK, I have had two QSO's using the Baofeng radios and it's a testament of the ThumbDV that the audio reports are good. I'm running CompassLinux with ircDDBGateway and DummyRepeater via Pi3 and my ThumbDV linked ( ethernet ) to a 4G router and one Baofeng linked to a PI3 USB port; the other is used for tx/rx, a basic analogue bridge really. So far I haven't figured out how to get the over air PTT to work; I am presently clicking on the transmit button in DummyRepeater; rx from the Internet works OK. I suppose that's not a bad thing at the moment as anyone transmitting on " my " frequency could appear on a connected reflector under my callsign. This " receive only " setup could be used to give others with analogue radios an opportunity to experience D-Star before taking the plunge, or you could set up your own Hotspot with a ThumbDV and two cheap radios. Regards, Ian..

Re: Pi3;ThumbDV and Baofeng..
Hi Ian, Cool experiment. DummyRepeater should be able to be keyed using a GPIO line (I would have to dig through the code to see which one), in which case if you can detect squelch in the Baofeng and use it to key the GPIO line, you would have a basic COR operated system (better yet, if you could find a PL detect, use PL to key the PTT).

Hello John, I had a wire from pin 1 ( cos ) on the 8 legged chip in the 888 connected but it held the tx on, maybe I need to invert it ?? I think pin 3 on the Pi3 GPIO can be used as well. What really surprised me was the way the ThumbDV handled the audio from the Baofeng. I'll start on the mark two model later.. Regards, Ian..

There should be a site or two online that has this information, as I'm aware of a few people that use the BF-888 UHF radio for AllStar Link node radios. I can look for them.and post the links when I find them. Matthew Pitts N8OHU

DV3000 one of the first boards and Pi 3
kb8pmy@...
So I have been running this on a raspberry pi one. That burned up a few weeks ago. I had to move the board to the pi 3. I have bluetooth turned off. It is raspbian headless. I can not get ambeserver to read the board on /dev/ttyAMA0. It says it can not find the start bit on the DV3K board. BUT the phyton script sends results back.

Any ideas for solving an error that shows when executing the thumbtest.exe file ? See attached screenshot . Andy K3UK

Re: Thumbtest error
Hi Andy, Make sure your ThumbDV is at COM3 (I am assuming that from the 3 you typed in), you can do this by observing Device Manager while plugging and unplugging. Then try COM3 as the input rather than simply '3'.

Gee, like the old days. I remember some old packet radio issues where the solution was "com 3 " rather than "3" after a Com prompt. i will give that a try. Thanks Andy K3UK

ThumbDv and Windows 10
mi0ceo_geo@...
Hi all I am having a problem with the Dv Node for windows 1.5.8 preview3. When I start it up in windows 10 it runs for about 5 seconds then stops. Windows then puts up the report "WinDv not responding" I have to close the programme with task manager. I have tried the compatibility mode to run WinDv but still it stops after about 5-10 seconds. I can still see the call signs changing but no sound from my system. When I try to close the programme it plays 5 or 6 dings then windows again puts up the report "WinDv not responding". I have reloaded Windows with nothing but WinDv but still this problem persists. HELP Best George MI0CEO

Re: ThumbDv and Windows 10
George, This is probably a problem with WinDV, which is supported by DUTCH*Star -- NW Digital Radio manufactures the hardware, but software support comes from the authors. You can pull down ThumbTest.exe from https://nw-digital-radio.groups.io/g/ambe/files to test if your ThumbDV is communicating. If it passes this test, then the issue is not with the ThumbDV. What you may wish to try is to remove all references to the DUTCH*Star software from the Windows Registry then reinstall. John
