ambeserver on a Raspberry Pi stops after 30 seconds #ambeserver

klammeraffe2@...

Hello,

I am quit new and has just start to work a little bit with a Raspberry Pi . I nstalled the image according the Wiki to run the ambeserver with an ThumbDV.
So far so good till after approx. 30 sec the server failed - attached the sceenshot of the status-messages.

Maybe someone can give me some hints, where to look for, that teh server is running "longer" than 35 seconds...

regards
Karl

Point us to which directions/image you are using.  Some are outdated or missing an element.

Hi, you get Problems to Start ambe server demon by open serial Port before.
Check why ttyUSB0 cannot open, maybe open /etc/group with nano or Other editor add dailout with the User who starts ambe Server.

John,

tnx for the reply. I followed the mentioned image from the WIKI - archive.compasslinux.org  (image_2018-12-31-compass-lite.zip) on a RPi 2.

Have't seen an other image....and I am not sure, if I can use the original raspian image?

Hello around,

think san close this  - just disconnetct the ThumbDV and reconnect them again to the RPi and no it works  - test it just with a connect  from the Blue DV app on my android and it works

Don't know why this is the solution , but .....

Thanks to everybody

Karl

This is usually a user/group/permission problem.

The Compass Linux images are older and mostly deprecated.  They can work, but I generally start with a newer Raspberry Pi OS (formerly Raspbian - Buster) version.  I then follow  https://nw-digital-radio.groups.io/g/ambe/wiki/1520#Quick-Build-on-Linux the source, support, and test programs can also be found at  https://nw-digital-radio.groups.io/g/ambe/files

AMBEserver is really a pretty simple daemon program.  As long as the environment is right it should work.

Sometimes the ThumbDV™ will get some bad data on the USB (another program hitting it or such) to start and the reinsert will fix the problem.

Hi Nomis,

tnx, I had done this the port change just for the test as I thought it could be the reason - but it wasn't the problem is solved, just be take off and back of the ThumbDV from the USB-port of the RPi
