The Latest Version of Compass Image is based on Raspbian Stretch
It is fully compatible with Raspbian Stretch and will update and upgrade from Raspbian repositories. It has the driver for the UDRC/DRAWS board preloaded, and has the Compass Linux repository for NW Digital Radio builds of amateur radio packages.
Compass provides Debian style install packages for armhf (for ARM7) and AMD64 Linux.
The following instructions are not guaranteed to work on any system. They have been successfully used to move a Raspbian Jessie install to Compass (including kernel and UDRC™ drivers) and to install certain amateur radio packages on newer AMD64 Debian and Ubuntu systems.
Use at your own risk. Backup your system before applying.
Create a Script
Edit a script in your home directory (cd ~) named compass-upgrade.sh with these contents
echo "Adding compass repository to sources list..."
cat > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/compass.list << EOF
deb [arch=armhf,amd64] http://archive.compasslinux.org/ alder main
echo "Pinning compass packages..."
cat > /etc/apt/preferences.d/compass << EOF
Pin: origin archive.compasslinux.org
echo "Adding compass signing key..."
curl --silent http://archive.compasslinux.org/compass.gpg.key | apt-key add -
echo "Updating package list..."
Execute the Script
Execute the script only once. If you execute more than once, you may need to edit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/compass.list and /etc/apt/preferences.d/compass (or delete these files and re-run):
chmod +x compass-upgrade.sh
Upgrade all packages (including the kernel package on Raspbian Jessie)
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
You may now install applications, for example (pick the programs for your application)
sudo apt-get install ircddbgateway ircddbgatewayd
