Re: Installing draws image concerns

I don't personally have a windows or mac machine, but my folks do.   I used one of their computers to write the original image to the original card i was using.  That computer should still have the program that i used to write the  pi os image.  I was thinking of that before i received the email.

Thank you.

Yes.  You can use Etcher to burn the Compass image onto your SD Ram card. You don’t even have to unzip the image. Etcher will handle the entire process. It will take ~ 20 minutes so go get a cup of coffe or your favorite beverage.

Hello Douglas & all,

I may have missed parts of this discussion which will make what I suggest below seem really stupid….

Is there any way you can use a Windows PC or a Mac and an open source SD card formatter and image burner previously known as “Etcher” (.exe or .app)  to format the MicroSD independently of the Pi & DRAWS Hat combination?

It is still an Open Source package.

Before being acquired by Balena and moving into the big time IoT,   ‘Etcher' worked extremely well under both OSs formatting your SDMicro for RPi use and burning whatever OS and App image you want onto it.

BalenaEtcher.app, v 1.5.5 installs and acts exactly like 'Etcher’ did with the exception that during it’s install it wants to access more (most only slightly related) web sites.

Before I use it I’ll go back and eliminate all of those cookies and associated Little Snitch permission settings to see if it still works the same.

You might want to simply not agree to all of the cookies it wants in order to see which, if any, it absolutely needs to load and ask you which device you want to format & burn an image on.

Once Etcher finishes the format, burn and verification of the DRAWS Image (& Compass linux), you remove the SD from your attached SD reader/writer and put it in the RPi., reboot the Pi and follow whatever the latest DRAWS instructions are.

The Mirco SD card plugs into the Raspberry Pi. The DRAWs card is a Pi Hat and it plugs onto the GPIO header connector on the Raspberry Pi. You connect 12 volts DC to the Pi Hat which powers the Pi via the GPIO connector.

Re: [New post] Sample Cases Have Arrived for DRAWS™ Workstation

The case is 2 piece 5052 Aluminum. Given the number of openings required for all of the connectors and the fact that the Pi mounting holes are not grounded, I doubt there is much practical shielding at the higher frequencies.

If you have access to a test facility, please contact me off-group at sales@... and we can discuss further.

Hi Tyler,

There will be pricing for boards, kits, and turnkey units.  The working number for the turnkey units is $300, but you should see a posting on the blog in the next few days with more information.

I just received my DRAWS board and am looking forward to getting it on the air.  I appreciate having two mounting posts installed on the board.  BUT I'm disappointed that two $.05 mounting screws for firmly attaching DRAWS to the Pi were not included with the $150 board.  I had to make a 30 minute trip to the local ACE Hardware to find them.
