Re: Compact gps antenna and c4labs case mod

I have a couple of those compact gps antennas, and while I cringed at the price initially, the performance is worth every penny.

I've yet to find any chinese or similar knock-offs, so Symmetry appears to be the one and only source for them.

Very nice.  Thanks.

Compact gps antenna and c4labs case mod

Experimenting with a compact right angle SMA antenna with LNA. So far so good. Procured from symmetry electronics, $32 shipped. Mfg is embedded antenna design, model is FGPS35216-SM-RA.

https://www.semiconductorstore.com/cart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=47319

Also soldered powerpoles to the 12v cable, coated it in liquid electrical tape and mounted it to a corner of the case with an M2.5x16 screw I got from ACE hardware for $0.75.
May modify the acrylic to keep the wires enclosed. See pics and output of cpgs

I'll check it out in the morning. No CAD software at home. I'm sure it is excellent.

What's the weather like in Sidney? It's humid and hot here in the Great Lakes.

Cheers mate!

No problem. I've been given permission to create files. I should have something in the next couple of days (maybe as soon as tomorrow afternoon). I have some ideas for cases and have a Shapeways account to turn things into production items for the group. Please understand that I'm not doing this for profit. This will be in the spirit of Open Source.

For me, I'm going to make a steam-punk DRAWS system. :) Brass, flashy lights, coils, etc., etc. Or maybe, I'll stuff it all into an old TRS-80... the possibilities are endless. For me, this isn't something that you put out of sight. It's genius that should be celebrated. Choose function, choose art, choose whatever. We need an Ecomm version. We need a classroom version, etc., etc. Maybe a wearable? Who knows?

Cheers,

Dale KE8GTV

Hopefully the attached step is a good start.

Re: 3D drawings?

Dale,

I'm using Fusion 360 so STEP or IGES would work.  SolidWorks *.prt, *.asm, *.sldprt, *.sldasm - up to SolidWorks 2018 - would also work.  Detail would be nice, but bounding box dimensions and mounting point positions are all I really need.  Thanks for offering.

Re: 3D drawings?

Hello Han,

Are you on Windows, MacOS, or Linux?

Has the ThumbDV been operational and then recently quit?

Does the LED flash when you test it?

What can I do for that.

Pls inform to me in detail.

Would something like this have sufficient level of detail for a 3D model? This is a screenshot of a Pi3B:

Dave,
What format would want the 3D models in? I use SolidWorks and could output it as IGES, STEP, or native SWX. Of course, I would need permission of Northwest Digital to create the models. It wouldn't take me that long to backward engineer my HAT.

Thanks,

Mike,
you can disregard my last post. I reread your post and realize it was a quote from another post elsewhere. The “Frankenstein” wasn’t yours for me to ask about.
Unless someone else knows what that config was for the Quantar and other radio, sorry for the confusion.

Mike,
what all was involved (hardware and configuration) in the “Frankenstein” setup using the Quantar for the Tx and the other radio for the Rx. I have 2 VHF Quantars and would love to be able to use one on DMR.
