Re: Thumb dv audio breakup

Just done a test as suggested:

Packet loss 0%
Ping 221ms
Jitter 36ms

What do you think?

Packet loss and jitter are your enemies.  These are things that can only be fixed on your network connection / ISP.

The connection between the computer and the ThumbDV or PiDV is simply a serial port that passes packets back and forth.  PCM (Audio) to AMBE or AMBE to PCM (Audio), everything else is up to the application (which in turn uses services from the operating system).

here are 3 tests i did:

1) transmit 8 seconds, return  6.8 seconds
2) transmit 11.3 secs return 7.8 seconds
3) transmit 15.1 secs return 11.1 seconds

So you can see the reason for the dropped words on transmission

Also restarted the router in case it was an internet issue.
Have pretty slow internet speed 2.2mbps but it never caused issues with my previous dongle.

I agree could be packet loss - have also shared the info with the retailer

Or is it a matter of returning it?

Have been doing testing and the problem seems to be packet losses.

Eg: when calling on REF001E
3 calls one after the other.
1) transmit 8 seconds, return  6.8 seconds
2) transmit 11.3 secs return 7.8 seconds
3) transmit 15.1 secs return 11.1 seconds

So not sure what the fix is.

On two Windows 10 desktop computers I use, I had the same problem. When you try to start WinDV, it stops working abruptly and exits, giving no reason for why. Windows just says DVnode has stopped working.

I fixed it by upgrading to the latest FTDI chip drivers from here:  http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm

More straight forward WinDV installs fine

all drivers install fine usb assigned to Com10 - unplug it and plug it in all ok.

Try to run DV node and it crashes and just says DV node has stopped working (thanks windows it never started) windows will close the program and notify you of a solution BUT it doesn't

I think its an issue with windows 10 but i cannot revert back to windows 7 as I'm too late.

I’m really lost here. What readme RTF file are you talking about? Unless I’m going senile at a very early age, I don’t recall shipping any RTF files with Buster.

It *IS* a simple application install. I don’t know where you’re getting the idea it isn’t. MacOS X “Mavericks” and “El Capitan” both come with the appropriate drivers already installed. You do not need to install any other drivers. Otherwise it’s just downloading it from the App Store and launching it. There should be no compiling or command line anything involved.

Buster Source Code

Jeremy McDermond <mcdermj@...>

I have released the Buster source code under the Community Development and Distribution License today. Keep in mind that the code is still pretty raw and you’ll see a lot of “XXX” comments along the way. You can access the code through GitHub at https://github.com/mcdermj/buster. Please read the README.md before you submit code to the project.

If you have any issues, please look at the issue tracker on GitHub (https://github.com/mcdermj/buster/issues). There are some known issues there that didn’t get triaged for the 1.0 release, so check on them before you submit another issue. If you have new issues, please submit them there because it allows me to triage and track them so they don’t get lost.

There’s also a wiki up there (https://github.com/mcdermj/buster/wiki) and folks should feel free to contribute content.

Thanks to everyone for their warm support, and hopefully the code is illuminating to some folks. If you have architecture questions, please don’t hesitate to drop me an email.

sudo AMBEserverGPIO -d -i /dev/ttyAMA0

Some progress on fusion software reflectors?

Will the new "fusion module" when completed, use ircddbgateway for its routing ?

and if so will we have a dstar - fusion crossover within ircddbgateway, ie can I link my dstar repeater and my dr1x to the same reflector. As I see it, bits is bits over the network, what ever module is at the end point would be responsible for transmission in the correct mode....  Or am I looking at it too simply ?? Is this the intent, or are the c4fm modules intended to be a separate entity using their own separate reflectors or rooms etc.

A.

OK - I'm in business for now with David's gracious assistance. Many Thanks!

Lessons learned:

1. DV Node for Windows often crashes when you hit Gateway button. I'm not the only app crash victim.

2. Reflectors don't show up unless you select correct name server. Duh my bad.

Re: Newbie with Thumb DV3000 problems on Windows 10

merliniac@...

If I understand it correctly my callsign registration looks like it is still incomplete. I'm not sure what a normal turnaround time is on that? Any idea?

I was able to get beyond the Gateway button crashing the application. That was apparently experienced by others also.

Thanks,
Richard
