It is the DVSI AMBE 3000 chip with interfacing to the GPIO port on a Raspberry Pi B/B+ Software is available and working for a couple of D-STAR applications and the DV3000 can be accessed by software running on the RasPi or over the network to the RasPi where the DV3000 is installed. See http://nwdigitalradio.com/category/dv3000 news, articles, and links to setup instructions.
This is accomplished with DummyRepeater/ircDDBGateway for microphone/speaker on the RasPi or other network attached computer, talking to the D-STAR network. An access point would require a modem (DVRPT V1, GMSK Modem, DVAP), which could also be attached to the RasPi.
That's a longer discussion, but at least one independent developer has attached the DV3000 to open source DMR (and more) protocol software (DSD). Experimental at this point.

Re: Update on setting up AMBEServer

As I understand this, the DV3000 is merely a Vocoder board. That the software to use it for D-Star or DMR has to be in the radio or in an R-Pi box. Is this a correct assumption?
Has someone created a D-Star app for this? Thus I could use it now, with R-Pi, much like the DV dongel is used. But with the radio then I have a DV Access Point (radio). Thus if I were to want to do DMR all is needed is similar software. Is this a correct assumption? N9NWO

Update on setting up AMBEServer
"John D. Hays" <john@...>
Some edits on setting up a DV3000, including an init.d script for starting and stopping the DV3000 BTW, I have obtained a Raspberry Pi B+ and confirmed that the DV3000 works with it. I'll put a note up on http://nwdigitalradio.com in the next day or two.

I don't see why it won't, as there is someone else using the AMBE 3000 USB dongle from DVSI to do this.

So you are using DSD just to decode process the discriminator in like what what Johnathan Naylor, G4KLX did with his D-star client? Presumably then you strip off the voice portion and send it to the DV3000 for decoding/encoding? Sounds like much like what Johnathans implementation does as it can send it off to a DV dongle. The only difference is his doesn't support DMR.

Re: ethernet linking
"John D. Hays" <john@...>
D-STAR DD mode, support of which is planned, can be used in Ethernet bridge mode. However, the data rate is such that you probably want to filter out most Ethernet traffic and instead use IP routing.

While the concept of a TNC test CD is good, the WA8LMF website mentions only Windoze XP. Any test suite, CD or otherwise, needs to be generic enough to run with any browser and any OS, including Linux, Mac, Win 7, and Win 8.

Also, interoperability with as many TNCs as possible, including the KPC-9612 non-plus, would be good as one don't always know what TNC is on the other end of a connection, especially when things get cobbled together in response to an emergency deployment.

The UDRX should operate with any 9600 TNC but here is the short list of what we are testing with internally.I hope you are using the KPC-9612+ - the non-plus is broken out of the box - just ask Dennis. Yaesu VX-8GThe Timewave PK-96 is the basic 9600 TNC available today... http://www.timewave.com/products/pk96.html While it's early in its product life cycle, the T3-9670 is going to be a game changer as basic UHF data radio. https://www.argentdata.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=171 The future of data like this (IM!HO) is software - we have at least two significant soundcard modem packages that can theoretically handle 9k6.
