Re: How to bring "down" PTT?
Steve McGrane <temporarilyoffline@...>
I saw that... and it might be in my future... or I might get another rig. I got to the point where I MUST GET THIS WORKING... and now I have... but when the dust settles, this isn't the radio for a "go kit" since its only 2m, and you can't do voice without disconnecting digital and vice versa... we'll see... Thanks for sending that over. - Steve

Cable For IC-7610 to DRAWS
Trying to find a cable to match the 8pin mini din on 7610 to 6pin din on DRAWS. Just not able to wire one myself, shake too much when soldering.

Not sure what you are looking for, Raspbian typically comes up in either a GUI (with the default being the Pixel desktop) or a command line interface. You can select which one it uses by using raspi-config

DRAWS Video #4
Steve McGrane <temporarilyoffline@...>
Its been a while, but now that my radio is back from factory service, I got the kick in the pants I needed to make another video. This video is all about how to make a bootable backup of your SD card in case mayhem strikes. Take a look and let me know what you think by clicking like or dislike: Next up will be a JS8 Video, Stay Tuned! - Steve, KM9G

Is there another thread where this has continued? Or did it just die off in December?
Thanks, Michael N7UIC

Audio Debug?
Steve McGrane <temporarilyoffline@...>
I'm not getting what I think would be the right audio in/out from the DRAWS. I've tried a second cable and the second port. I get some input, but not 100% and I get no output in FT8 or JS8Call. When I'm in FLDIGI, I get no waterfall, but I can hit the tuner function and it will transmit a tuning sound and my remote signal strength meter registers TX as well. Is there anyway to run a command and get some test output? Regards, - Steve

Is there anyway to run a command and get some test output? To output an audio tone on either the left or right draws connector use the measure_deviate.sh script. Documentation here: https://github.com/nwdigitalradio/n7nix/tree/master/deviation Script here: n7nix/deviation/measure_deviate.sh Also run: alsa-show.sh Do these settings match the radio you are using? ie. did you use John's web based draws-manager? /Basil Steve McGrane <temporarilyoffline@...> writes: I'm not getting what I think would be the right audio in/out from the

I had to re-run my setalsa-ft891.sh script and that reset the levels to something working. Been a while since I touched that.

Steve,
Have enjoyed your videos. Am a computer guy but not much UNIX background. Have gotten a 3b+ up and running with an ICOM 7300. Wondering what your opinion is of the value of the DRAWS HAT is with that radio given that it already has the equivalent of a signal link built in. Mike Starling WV8AE

Re: DRAWS Video #4
Ryan W Leathers
Michael asked the question about the usefulness of the DRAWS with a rig like the IC-7300. The DRAWS is much more than a sound card and digital modes interface. It is a convenient way to get highly accurate GPS position, clock, run a variety of interesting applications for rig control and digital modes without a bulky PC or laptop, and it does all this using the same 12v systems you already have for portable / mobile use. The question for me is not about duplication of signaling style capabilities. Rather it is whether or not one plans on mobile / portable operation. This is where features like the GPS, small form factor, and power really put the DRAWS in a class of its own, at least in my opinion. There are other ways to run digital modes on Linux in the shack, so DRAWS is just another option there. But in the field it's a different story. Nothing else comes close.

Re: DRAWS Video #4
As Brian put it in one of his recent presentations about the DRAWS
platform, the intent is in "putting the Amateur back in Amateur
Radio". This is rather fitting given that the R-Pi was devised for
much the same purpose, to be educational.

The DRAWS platform is an experimenters board (HAT) with loads of capabilities as Ryan noted. Being based on Linux provides a learning opportunity for the OS of choice for many things going forward. Linux is reasonably easy to learn. The nice thing is that learning Linux on the DRAWS does not limit where you can go with Linux in general. It all comes down to if you just want to plug something in and use the tools provided to play radio or if you want to open the hood, dig around in the innards, get your hands dirty and learn more about what you are doing at a lower level. All while bringing new technologies to play. Happy Trails, Steve, N9VW

Hi, Is there any date for shipping of the D.R.A.W.S. aluminum cases yet? I was hoping to have one by Field Day, as I brought my Raspberry Pi with D.R.A.W.S. hat to FD, naked, because no case had arrived. Please advise, and thanks. -Dave

New Raspberry Pi 4 compatibility with DRAWS HAT
#support
Dreuge@...
The new Raspberry PI 4 has just been released. The PI4 is a serious upgrade over the PI3B. I'm guessing and hoping that DRAWS HAT is compatible, but I would like confirmation. So, will the DRAWS HAT work with the PI4 or will we need to wait for an updated DRAWS HAT for PI4 use?
