The terms sound chip and CODEC can be used interchangeably in some contexts. The DRAWS has a highly functional CODEC by TI. Sorry for the confusion.
AMBE is a VOCODER and the while the DRAWS board does not have one integrated, the ThumbDV provides the ability to add one to a DRAWS workstation via USB.
