There’s  documentation on where to tap inside the radio so it won’t have the volume knob adjusting the levels. Let me see if I can find it.

Re: APRS udr0 or udr beta 12

Basil Gunn

Hi Pierre,
Thanks for the showudrc.sh output. Everything looks fine.

BETA12 has a compiled version of xastir in order to get latest version &
fix from Tom Russo. The previous BETA RPi versions had a package
installed version of xastir which had suid-root privileges set on the
xastir binary.

To Fix: from here:
https://xastir.org/index.php/XASTIR_Manual#AX.25_Kernel_Network_Interface_on_Linux

make sure that the xastir binary has suid-root permission:

sudo chmod u+s /usr/local/bin/xastir

Also you can try these two interfaces:

Xastir configuration Interface-> Interface Control

Networked AGWPE localhost:8000
Networked GPS (via gpsd)

Let me know if this fixes your problem.

Run script showudrc.sh
Cut & paste the console output into an email to me.

Hello,

I need help with XASTIR or YAAC. On beta 10 and 11, I was able to connect using udr0 or udr1 by just typing it in the device selection.

In the beta12 when selecting in the XASTIR AX.25 TNC device is no longer works using udr0 or udr1. I did make a new copy of beta12 no dice…

Came back to beta 11and it works, what am I missing? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for the great work on this version (beta 12) except for this issue everything else is working fine for my needs.

Yes, the accessory port is used for CAT control. Typically, you
use a CT-62 type cable for CAT -- there are USB versions which
work for the Raspberry Pi and FT-8x7 radios. For example https://

A couple of programs like fldigi and direwolf support GPIO PTT on
the Raspberry Pi (which is wired to the DIN6 PTT line), others do
not, so CAT, VOX, or other methods need to be used to key the
transmitter.

This is true for applications running on the Pi ... it makes for
a good investment for your FT-817

I tried this during the last ISS SSTV event and had an issue where the application would crash. I didn't have time to look into the issue further but I thought it was a great addition to the DRAWS.

It is not included on the beta images, but for the experimenter (e.g. willing to build from code, experiment, and troubleshoot on your own). It is pretty straightforward to implement QSSTV application, by Johan Maes (ON4QZ).

I have been able to successfully print SSTV transmission with QSSTV, but due to station limitations have not done a 2-way QSO. I believe it will work just fine on TX, and would love to hear from anyone who tries it.

Starting with the manual, the installation section gives the steps to build and install from source (April 2019 - version 9.3.3).

Once built and installed you will find the QSSTV program under Education->QSSTV

I have my system setup with pulseaudio, which is supported in the application or you can use standard ALSA and select the udrc soundcard. (Pulse Audio allows you to address the left and right channels separately. The default pulse audio is to the left DIN)

Under Configuration -> Sound within the application

Setup CAT control for your radio under configuration.

Finally, setup some common SSTV frequencies under configuration.

John, Rick,

@Rick, John make an important point about the CT-62 cable… I forgot to mention it. I prefer full CAT control because I can use the program to auto switch to the correct frequency.

@John, which sound interface do you recommend using? Prior to BETA 12 I was using “hw:CARD=udrc,DEV=0”, it no longer works in wsjt-x, and I found by experimentation that “plughw:CARD=udrc, DEV=0” does work. I get the feeling I am missing something…

Thanks for your input.

I’ve found wsjt-x 2.0 and it is running. I can receive and decode FT8 from my 817. I’m having trouble figuring out how to set up rig control. I’d be happy without rig control and just have the wsjt program do ptt but can’t figure out how to configure that either. There are several port selections under PTT which aren’t intuitive to me. I am using the left mini din port and know that there are gpio commands for each mini din. I’m not sure how that helps me in this setting. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Rick Ka4ohm.

Re: SSTV on DRAWS™ #draws #sstv #experimenter

Peter,

If a radio does not support PTT via CAT control, you can obtain a serial adapter (USB) which has RTS and/or DTR pins available. Create a connection to PTT and Ground and select the "Special Serial Port" to enable PTT.  Read up on this in hamlib documentation. (This is beyond the scope of NW Digital Radio support, but there is plenty of discussion around hamlib rig interfacing online.)

The other option would be to encourage Johan to support GPIO PTT keying in his program.

This does look like fun. I see in the documentation that QSSTV has an FM modulation mode in addition to SSB. Do you have any hints for setting up PTT popular FM transceivers such as an Icom or Alinco using the appropriate 6 pin DIN cable to connect to the radio.
Am I missing something simple?
