Hi Markus,

I believe the measure_deviate.sh script does what you want. Instead of
playing the tone WAV file, point the aplay line at the appropriate audio
file. The script takes care of turning on/off PTT for left/right mDin6
connector used.

https://github.com/nwdigitalradio/n7nix/tree/master/deviation

If you just want a simple script to control PTT then please check
ptt_ctrl.sh

https://github.com/nwdigitalradio/n7nix/blob/master/bin/ptt_ctrl.sh

How the radio equipment would wire now with the HAT UDRC?
I would like to make a BASH script from the console an send some text.
As software MINIMODEM is supposed to run the tool. http://www.whence.com/minimodem/

Software steps in the Script:

- Text convert to WAV (audio file)
- wait
- push the PTT
- wait
- play Audio

Re: Question HW and SW

I have not implemented or tested this, but it should work.

Raspbian is Linux on the Raspberry Pi, so you only need the Pi plus DRAWS™ HAT and radios. The wiring to the radio is straightforward using the amateur radio standard mini DIN-6 pinout for packet radio.

minimodem installs with a simple apt-get.

Look at some of the TTS (text to speech) packages.

You can't expect them to create another early adopter case for the Pi 4. My understanding is that a discount was offered to early adopters and you took the risk knowing that there could be issues. If not being able to use the aluminum case and the Pi 4 with the early adopter board is the biggest issue, I'm fine with that, after all it didn't exist when these things were designed. If it turns out there is a defect in the board that causes it to stop working tomorrow, that would be a bummer but I also knew there was that risk and I'd be glad that I helped iron out any issues.

I own two DRAWS boards and have two cases on order. I bought them knowing that anything could happen but I wanted to experiment with something new that I believe has potential. That is the Amateur spirit, isn't it?

If we have a case on backorder (ordered mine a couple months ago) will we be receiving the Pi4-compatible cases or the old Pi3 case?

FWIW, at this point I'd rather have the DRAWS board in hand and I can wait on the case if I have to. I won't have my Pi4 until July anyway.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4

Hi All,

The new Raspberry Pi 4 has some interesting features and we certainly will be looking at it, however, we at NW Digital Radio do not get any advance engineering information from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, so we must also wait for shipments to have test units.

In the short term, we recommend sticking with the currently supported models of Pis unless you are familiar with building software and self support.

We are also looking at updating the design for the production (non-beta) DRAWS™ aluminum cases to accommodate the 2, 3, and 4 Pi motherboards.

Stay tuned.

It may be worth noting that "You MUST make sure to upgrade your Raspbian operating system install to the latest version so that the firmware can support the new chips! Old SD cards from previous releases will not work without a upgrade!", per the Adafruit web site announcement.

Hopefully Anna's kernal update for the DRAWS chip drivers makes it into the Raspbian image soon.

This sounds like my weather voice system. The second radio is a ctually a repeater and no need for the second rpi or udrc. It converted the text from a weather station to wav file and sent them over the radio to the repeater. I have just now started re-coding it for the DrawsHat in Python. It will take some time as I am not dedicated to it just wanted to play around, and get it running again. I originally wrote it in visual basic on windows. Keep us informed. When I get going on it I will post something here. I have a dtmf decoder I used but hope to incorporate direwolf to reduce the hardware requirments. The DTMF was what triggered the weather report to go out to the repeater.
