Thanks Basil. I updated the config.txt has you described. Here's the output of aplay -l after making the change and rebooting:

Re: Audio Driver / Module Load Problem #audio #draws #kernel

Basil Gunn

John,

In file /boot/config.txt you currently have:

#dtoverlay=
dtoverlay=draws

Please change to:

dtoverlay=
dtoverlay=draws,alsaname=udrc

Be sure that you uncomment 'dtoverlay=' line.

Now reboot and run 'aplay -l'

/Basil

Re: error during udrc-dkms

Larry W7PAN

Basil,

Wish I had seen this thread earlier, I got the same error.  Hope the info below helps others that may not be so familiar with dpkg.

After the failure to upgrade the kernel, the dpkg install and configuration of other upgraded apps may not have completed and the system may be in a usable but possibly unstable state.

Issuing the command sudo dpkg -C will perform an audit and will return a list of apps not installed and/or configured.  If none are found it returns nothing and the apps have been upgraded.

If a list was returned then issuing the command sudo dpkg --configure -a should complete the install and configuration of the other upgraded apps.  Issuing the command sudo dpkg -C again will confirm this is the case.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4

The Raspberry Pi 4 announcement claims that the GPIO is pin compatible with the 2 and 3.  If this holds true, then the physical connection to the DRAWS™ HAT should be fully compatible.

We have yet to know if Annaliese's kernel driver for DRAWS™ HAT sound subsystem will be part of the initial Raspbian "Buster" release, which is required for the Raspberry Pi 4.  The current beta image is based on "Stretch" which does not support the Raspberry Pi 4 (per the Raspberry Pi Foundation), a self built image will be required until such time as NW Digital Radio provides an image based on Buster.  Raspbian Buster does not officially release until July 7th.

Status updates will be posted as available.

Yes they will.

The delay is, in part, working with the manufacturer to get the case "just right".  In the meantime the C4Labs case works nicely with the early adopter HATS, if you are looking to provide earlier packaging.

The sample was modified with hand tools, to create an install slot for the SMA connector - the final cases will have that slot as part of the machining at the factory.

Hi Jim.

The one with the Python and your weather station goes in the same direction. My goal is to transmit in Bash or Python.
I'm here about the combination between the HAT and the radio. Thank you.

Greetings Markus

This sounds like my weather voice system. The second radio is a ctually a repeater and no need for the second rpi or udrc. It converted the text from a weather station to wav file and sent them over the radio to the repeater. I have just now started re-coding it for the DrawsHat in Python. It will take some time as I am not dedicated to it just wanted to play around, and get it running again. I originally wrote it in visual basic on windows. Keep us informed. When I get going on it I will post something here. I have a dtmf decoder I used but hope to incorporate direwolf to reduce the hardware requirments. The DTMF was what triggered the weather report to go out to the repeater.

Raspbian is Linux on the Raspberry Pi, so you only need the Pi plus DRAWS™ HAT and radios. The wiring to the radio is straightforward using the amateur radio standard mini DIN-6 pinout for packet radio.

minimodem installs with a simple apt-get.

Look at some of the TTS (text to speech) packages.

I would like to make a BASH script from the console an send some text.

Hi Markus,

I believe the measure_deviate.sh script does what you want. Instead of
playing the tone WAV file, point the aplay line at the appropriate audio
file. The script takes care of turning on/off PTT for left/right mDin6
connector used.

If you just want a simple script to control PTT then please check

Hi All,

The new Raspberry Pi 4 has some interesting features and we certainly will be looking at it, however, we at NW Digital Radio do not get any advance engineering information from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, so we must also wait for shipments to have test units.

In the short term, we recommend sticking with the currently supported models of Pis unless you are familiar with building software and self support.

We are also looking at updating the design for the production (non-beta) DRAWS™ aluminum cases to accommodate the 2, 3, and 4 Pi motherboards.

Stay tuned.

Due to production delays, we will attempt to make both the early-adopter and production cases Pi 3-4 compatible.

We should have an update this week.
