To test the Winlink automatic check-in process which updates information displayed on winlink.org website do the following: cd cd n7nix/rmsgw ./chk_wlaci.sh Post ALL the console output of the above command. Mine has not updated in over 24 hours.

Brendan, after a reboot when you look at the file is it showing your modifications or not? If you find the file has reverted then what follows is the likely cause. One thing I have had happen is a glitch on the SD Card and this causes it to go to a read-only mode. In this state you can read, write, and modify files, even install entirely new applications that will run until you restart the system at which point all the modifications vanish as the were only stored in a virtual swap file. The way I solved the problem was to image the SD Card to a new SD card and that cleared the read-only state. If you are only running the RMS Gateway, I would suggest either use your backup - if you have one - or rebuild using a new card with a new image from scratch. This will probably take much less time that working to troubleshoot the problems with the existing system Thanks and 73, -Corky, AF4PM

Corky, I have no idea why my freehand attempt did not work but I got it to work using your suggested method.

I think you need to restart the gateway so it reads the now information. Thanks and 73, -Corky, AF4PM

Follow-up: I though by updating the channels.xml file with a new frequency it would also eventually update what's listed on winlink.org rms map and rms list. Mine has not updated in over 24 hours. Any suggestions on how to get that frequency information updated ?

Brendan, something must be
confused as when I do what you show below I am able to edit the
file without a problem.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Suggestion: cd /etc/rmsgw/ then type sudo nano chan (then complete the line using the tab key. This should stop at "channels.x" and then you can type an "m" followed again by the tab key and have it complete.) This will make sure that you do not have a typo and the file is actually in the selected path. Once you verify that it should open an edit without any problem. Thanks, -Corky Thanks and 73, -Corky, AF4PM On 11/13/20 6:03 PM, Brendan O'Neill

my email provider deleted my email address on file because ki8as did not have enough characters in it for there new policy. They have sent me emails back to my old ki8as@ email address but they do not go to me or anyone. I have written Hans at least four e mails but have not heard from him yet. Just waiting I guess. Hi Tom, You will have to work directly with the folks at ircddb.net -- one contact is: Contact / Webmaster: Hans-J. Barthen, DL5DI Franz-Josef-Str. 20 D 56642 Kruft Germany Email: dl5di@... If you are using the form at https://regsrv.ircddb.net/index.htm for a lost password, you have to be sure the callsigns and email address match what is on file. (Check your junk email for possible redirections) Lastly, you can get functionality using quadnet at https://www.openquad.net/start.php it does not require a password.

If a fan is indicated,If you are interested in characterizing RPi temperature I wrote some scripts that plot RPi temp, ambient temp & CPU activity. I use a DHT11 temperature module for ambient temperature measurement. https://github.com/n7nix/rpi-temp-graph I need to update the screen shots to include the CPU activity plot. /Basil

Since this is a user installed option, which is not needed for most, the 'difficulty' falls to the buyer doesn't it?

If you're planning to use a Raspberry Pi 3 - no need for a fan at all.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
If you're going to use a RPi 4, you may not need a fan as it will throttle itself or you can use a heatsink. If a fan is indicated, I plan to drill a small hole directly above the fan large enough for a rubber grommet and feed the wire through that hole.

Re: [nw-digital-radio] DRAWS™ Cases have moved to production!
Don, We will examine that possibility. It would require drilling a hole for the pigtail and selecting an internal 5V point to power it. The testing was done using the accessory jack on the end. When Bryan publishes the thermals, our preliminary numbers indicate that the fan will not be necessary for most "in shack" installations. We just wanted to make the option available for those installations where it is needed (e.g. an install in a high temperature environment).
