Re: Draws has just about taken me to my wits end
"Connection reset by peer" can be a credential problem. Your Winlink
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
client password can be different then your RMS Gateway password. The traffic spy you sent me previously was a path or deviation problem which is a different problem than what you are now describing. Have your ALSA settings changed? Run this script: alsa-show.sh Can you test with a peer-to-peer connection between 2 PAT clients (any Winlink clients will do)? This would remove the RMS Gateway and point to a radio/sound card setup problem. When I am testing or doing development I use 2 radios and Raspberry Pis. One is an RMS gateway, the other is a Winlink client. This setup removes the RF path variable & I can look at a packet spy from both sides. Is there any way for you to get me a packet spy from both your side (RMS Gateway) and the Winlink client side (PAT) that demonstrates your current problem? willing to buy it rather then send it back to

Re: Draws has just about taken me to my wits end
I honestly had better luck with Windows and a KPC3+ TNC.Please email sales.nwdr@gmail.com and ask for a return refund and send your DRAWS board back. I do not believe your problem has anything to do with your DRAWS sound card. You may have an incorrect Winlink password in your Linux RMS Gateway config file. Although the spy trace you sent me looks like a bad radio configuration. Once your deviation is set using ALSA parameters the installation scripts in the n7nix directory set up everything for a working RMS Gateway. I have 3 Winlink RMS Gateways I maintain that I set up this way using Kenwood TM-V71a radios. You have never sent the following output to me before. I assume it is from a Winlink Express client and is not shown in the spy trace you previously sent me. 2021/09/24 16:27:07 Exchange failed: read wl2k: connection reset by peerThe following can be the result of a bad password or you haven't been authorized to run a Winlink gateway although AE4ML-10 is in the Winlink database. This was setup months ago and it has never worked correctly. I honestly had better luck with Windows and a KPC3+ TNC.
No one has been able to use the rms gateway. everyone gets the same error "connection reset by peer. The modulation has been checked and verified on both my stations and the gateway as well as a couple other folks. short of a hammer and trash can I'm undecided as what to do next. to many people are complaining that they can't use it. Re: DRAWS viability
Ed Bloom, KD9FRQ
As a user of the DRAWS and PiGate
system, I would say Yes, this is a viable system.
I built a system with two radios
linked to the Pi and DRAWS. In is setup for Sending and
receiving email via Winlink or Peer to Peer. The other is setup
to use the XASTIR ARPS program (admittedly nor tested for full
APRS function but it receives the local packets). That same radio
is available for voice.
I also use the KM4ACK Build-A-Pi setup
with my HF rig in my Go Box. I wanted to try taht path and it
works well.

Re: Direwolf APRS Callsign
I was able to use the file as mentioned from Bryan to have three digipeaters working for the AYCE bike event this weekend. I do like knowing what port to use. It simplifies things so others that helped could to put together two portable digipeaters we used this Saturday. The event went very well and we were able to see the SAG vehicles running around the course. The draws board with GPS and GPSD running, PTT with audio is a nice robust way to a build portable Digipeater.

After re-reading your question, John's answer is the correct one. Type: man call for more info. Eg. To log into a node or BBS: call udr0 <some_callsign>

There are quite a few AX.25 apps that will do peer-to-peer packet. For 1 to 1 I use chattervox and for 1 to many I use APRS messaging as found in Xastir, YAAC or nixtracker. Try some out to find the one you like best. /Basil

Have you considered APRS text messaging? Since the amount of data you are sending is short, and you are sending it to a specific other station in your use case, APRS text messaging uses a sequence number with acknowledgement and automatic retry if the ack isn't received.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
You don't have to worry about channel jamming because your event can use a non-standard frequency for your APRS network. Every bicycle event I have worked has _never_ used the national APRS frequency for their support vehicle tracking. Most desktop APRS applications can keep track of incoming APRS text messages, and the radios with built-in APRS support can (painfully) send text messages from their keypad. So your Net Control station watching APRS position reports should be able to see texts from your field stations easily enough. Just a suggestion. If you have to have guaranteed delivery, a "BBS" or node application to gather data would be necessary.

That is correct, I see JP1, JP2 and JP3 however I'm not sure any of these are correct. If the 12v isn't supplied from the repeater, will 5v to the Pi automatically power the UDRC? I can't locate a manual to confirm.

Peer to Peer "Chat" or Packet
Ed Bloom, KD9FRQ
Using my Pi, DRAWS and radio, I am able to send and receive emails via the WinLink network.
Local Peer to Peer has only been tested once and still needs to be tested more but that is for a different day. Some of us tried to use old fashioned Peer to Peer Packet recently while supporting a 100 mile Ultra marathon. I did not participate due to a vacation so I did not attend the training session. What do I need to do with my Pi to be able to connect to a Peer, "log in", drop a test string or file with data (bib number, check point, time in, time out), "log out" and close the connection so others may do so?
