I'm sort of old and sort of new at this too.
The suggestion is to back feed power to the PI via the 12v pigtail to the hat due to some of the "less than optimal" wall warts that sometimes

with the Pi OR 12V connector on the DRAWS board. Use either OR but not

with a systemd service file.

I did a fresh installation (#5710) but the Error on starting Hamlib (4.1) for Wsjtx ist still there. Result before I stopped pulse audio:

I only support the NWDR image. A lot of time has gone into making sure
things run properly in that environment. If you have a DRAWS hat I
haven't seen a compelling reason not to use the NWDR
