Re: Idea for next version of DRAWS

I will allow the engineer explain the electronic principles but the transformers are omitted by design.

The transformer modifies the passed audio spectrum and can distort certain modulation forms (such as GMSK) so as to make them unusable.

Audio levels are digitally controlled under software by circuitry in the sound chip.

But when looking board layout, possible space for audio transformers may ne just behind L and R connectors.. just populate even one of radio port, no space for 4 transformers, but maybe space for two.

Virtual audio device with URDC-II and Direwolf on Compass #udrc-ii

ml000-0013@...

Hi,

I wanted to see if anyone else has run into this issue with virtual ALSA devices and Direwolf.  I'm aware that virtual devices are experimental, and my config works properly when using the hardware device instead of the virtual device:

root@hammy:~# cd; /usr/local/bin/direwolf -t 0 -q h -p

Dire Wolf version 1.5 (Sep 22 2018) Beta Test 4

Reading config file direwolf.conf

Audio device for both receive and transmit: subdin6(channel 0)

Channel 0: 1200 baud, AFSK 1200 & 2200 Hz, E+, 44100 sample rate / 3.

Ready to accept AGW client application 0 on port 8000 ...

Ready to accept KISS TCP client application 0 on port 8001 ...

Virtual KISS TNC is available on /dev/pts/12

Created symlink /tmp/kisstnc -> /dev/pts/12

[0L] KG7WFV>BEACON:KG7WFV/R KG7WFV-4/N SWHDBY/N KG7WFV-10/WL2K SWRMS/WL2K

Audio write error: File descriptor in bad state

Audio write error: File descriptor in bad state

Audio write error: File descriptor in bad state

Audio write error: File descriptor in bad state

Direwolf appears to work fine for receiving, and the first transmission actually works properly.  On the second transmission, I receive the error above and direwolf keys the radio with dead air.  I rolled back to version 1.4 of direwolf to confirm this error was still present in that version as well.  My setup includes a UDRC-II, RPi 3, and Compass Lite 20180701 .  I'm using the asound.conf configuration found here a minimal direwolf config.

  Thanks
  Mike

In the direwolf configuration
Channel 0 is the left DIN connector
Channel 1 is the right DIN connector

Xastir can be loaded and access the gpsd at localhost and the modem via AGWPE interface.

Re: DRAWS downloadable Image? #setup #compassimage #draws #earlyadopters

Hi August,

The holidays caught us and we don't have the final alpha image ready yet.  However, you can get your DRAWS running with just a bit of work.

First, download http://archive.compasslinux.org/images/image_2018-11-18-compass.zip
Uncompress the image with a zip program
Burn it to a SD card using Etcher or other image copying program (dd on Linux for example)
Boot the image and edit /boot/config.txt and change the last line from dtoverlay=udrc to dtoverlay=draws
Save and reboot.

You should now have an image for DRAWS.

Verifying DRAWS and UDRC Hardware

When using Compass Linux, the command aplay -L will list the sound devices including your DRAWS or UDRC (DRAWS may show UDRC, the sound subsystem is the same).  You can also find the device under /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/hat by looking at the contents of the product file and vendor file.  On DRAWS, the GPS serial port is at /dev/ttySC0 and pulse per second device is at /dev/pps0.

Get the GPS running, if you have an antenna attached - see wiki page

Install chrony and direwolf

Is there a prebuilt image for DRAWS?

The short answer is Yes.

Starting with delivery of the DRAWS HAT, a downloadable image will be available to run the DRAWS workstation.  It will contain the current version of Raspbian (Stretch) including preloaded DRAWS HAT driver and a selection of applications that have been compiled for and tested on the DRAWS platform.

I now have my DRAWS HAT delivered, where do I find this downloadable image?

Thanks,

August KG7BZ
