Re: Updated DRAWS Brochure Uploaded #draws

Jack,

If you come up with a good print, we can include it in the files section for others.

This will be a good start. I will need to guestimate the vertical clearance for mounted connectors, but should not be too difficult. If Once the board gets here, I do final measurements and if I can get a working print, I will post.

Might also be great to see a 3D printer .stl file appear for those that like to homebrew. There are lots of RPi bases in creative commons that could serve as a starter.

Looking forward to receiving the hardware.

Re: DRAWA & Pi Case

There will be a metal case for the DRAWS + Pi with projected availability in January.  This case is designed to match all of the ports to the two boards.

There is also a 3rd party who is looking to produce an acrylic case.

If its like the UDRC then the Pi HAT HIFI hat worked great on the UDRC

Re: DRAWS Board Connectors

I see the L-1 and L-2 audio paths from the two 6-pin mini-din jacks
which support two radios. Does the aux A-in provide for third radio
connection ?
The TI TLV320aic3204 is a stereo audio CODEC which means it has 2
channels so you can control 2 radios. On the mDin6 connectors there is
one pin for packet transmission (pin 1) & two pins for receiving. Pin 4
is for 9600 bps (and greater) ie. signal prior to the de-emphasis
circuit, and pin 5 is for 1200 bps which on most radios provides
de-emphasis to the received signal.

On the Auxiliary connector Ain2 & Ain3 are 2 input channels of the TLA2024 12
bit ADC for voltage checking, temperature measurement etc.

Re: Digital Voice Repeater/Hotspot

Tom,

Like the UDRC, you can hook up a radio or repeater to the DRAWS board to create a digital voice hotspot or repeater.

https://nw-digital-radio.groups.io/g/udrc/wiki/UDRC%E2%84%A2-For-Simplex-Hotspots-and-Converted-Analog-Repeaters  (The procedure is nearly identical for DRAWS, we will update as we get new images out.)

Hi , is the radio set to 9600 baud for Packet?

However I could not ever get my older TM-733 Kenwood to talk to an MMDVM YSF/DMR modem at 9600.  Perhaps googling for 9600 baud issues if it wont work on the 9600 baud setting.

However, when I send, the transmitter keys for less than a second and stops even though the PTT LED on the UDRC-II stays on for the duration of the out going data.

Does anyone have any ideas why the 8500 won't hold the PTT for the whole time? There is no issue if I key the radio with the PTT on the microphone.

I am sure there is nothing wrong with the UDRC-II ... I can used it successfully with at least three other radios. Are there any FT-8500 owners out there that might steer me to a setting that I should change on the radio?

I have been told that the 9600 baud option is not available in the Refurbs as Yeasu does not want folks buying them to use other brand radios on, which is understandable.

Can you verify that the 9600 baud option is turned on in the settings? Follow the setup picture on where to hold the tx frequency on a long press to get the switch each time between 1200 baud and 9600 baud.

Also check the firmware level/dates.

The original should have worked, if the directions were carefully followed (with no internal modifications).

It is a refurb, but I don't recall the firmware version off the top of my head. We also tried it with the non-refurb DR1X that we have, and had the same TX audio issue. The levels would just never come up where it needed to be. We modded the DR1X, and were able to get proper output using another DVM board (STM32-DVM), so now I was trying to get the UDRC going as well.

I am attempting to make a straight through custom cable that breaks out the PTT and Audio Out lines. I have performed the modification to the DR1-X cable that connects the receiver and transmitter so that I can tap directly into those two lines, bypassing any audio processing in the DR1X. We (club) hooked up the UDRC with the straight through cable you can purchase with it, and it worked fine...except we could never get the audio levels to output a proper D-Star signal. The fix/mod to work around that is to tap directly into the audio line going to the transmitter. I tried making a straight through cable, but the Pi isn't powering up, so I have something crossed somewhere. If you look at the pinout in the UDRC schematic, it looks like the middle row of pins should be shifted to the right.

The UDRC/UDRC-II 15-PIN connector is aligned to connect to the DR-1X HD-15 connector using a straight through 15 line cable.  This was created to be a plug to plug connection.  We are not sure that refurbished DR-1X repeaters being resold since the release of the DR-2X have the same pin wiring.

What are you trying to solve?

I have a question about the pinout shown in the wiring diagram. Is this shown from the rear, or from the front, like you were looking at the connector face? The pin orientation is off from that of the actual DR1-X repeater.
