Thanks John

Re: I need to reload my SD Card on UDRC II

Ted,
Unfortunately, I am unable to build and test a new version at this time.

You will need Raspbian setup for UDRC.  (The Buster version of Raspbian has the driver built-in, but needs to be turned in configuration.  Have not tested ircddbgateway and dstarrepeater on Buster)

Install ircddbgateway and dstarrepeater
The web based configuration tool is available at

I have installed your NWDR15 image and followed all of your getting
started steps with the exception below in 1) and have a few
issues/questions:

1) Was it a mistake to set my own pwd on the first boot?
No not a mistake, it is a good idea.

Is it required to login as pi, pwd: digiberry?
No not required

I used Belena Etcher on my WIN10 laptop to image the mSD card with
NWDR15.img and installed it in the RPi
I do not comment on any Windows utility you may use. I do not use
Windows.

2) is a duplicate callsign an issue: see the last two lines below
No it is just a warning and a symptom of a mis-configured
/etc/ax25/axports file.

3) I am hearing APRS positions when receiving on 144.390 MHz but not
picking them up in the Direwolf.log I had in a previous build but was
on an 80' tower and near a repeater which is not the case today
working from home.
This might be due to your axports file or your understanding of which
port to use on the DRAWS. Which connector is used to connect to your
radio?

alsa-show.sh
===== ALSA Controls for Radio Transmit =====
LO Driver Gain L:[-6.00dB] R:[-6.00dB]
PCM L:[-25.00dB] R:[-25.00dB]
These are the default settings and probably not what you want. Using
alsamixer play with LO Driver Gain & PCM until your deviation is set
properly.

Read this: How to use measure_deviate.sh doc
https://github.com/nwdigitalradio/n7nix/tree/master/deviation
and especially: Setting Your TNC's audio drive level by John Ackermann
https://www.febo.com/packet/layer-one/transmit.html

Since you have enabled IN2 which expects audio coming from AFOUT be
sure your radio has some output on pin 5 of the mDin6 connector. Choices
are pin 4 for discriminator out & pin 5 for AFOUT but the correct
routing must be also be chosen using alsa IN1 or IN2.

4) when I use ./btest.sh -P udr0 the system transmits as I receive on
a second rcvr, but do not hear the expected modem sounds on either the
xmitting radio nor on the second rcvr but I do get the carrier and
break squelch.
Either deviation is way off (most likely) or radio is connected to the
wrong mDin6 connector.

Also the message is logged in Direwolf and appears on
the APRS status server : http://107.170.42.65:14501/ (
http://107.170.42.65:14501/ )
However, on the APRS.fi site I get this: KO4BCZ was not found in the
location database.
Probably because you are not transmitting anything that can be decoded by
near by IGates.

I have been running this Software on 2 of my Repeater for several years and it has been working great until recently one of them had the SD Card fail. Is this Web page based Software still available or is there something else that has taken its place and where would i find it?

So very happy and excited with this functionality. Thanks to Basil for picking up Dantracker and running with it.

Re: Nixtracker

Thanks Basil,

That worked perfectly. I know have the Sats window populated properly and everything else seems to be working as well. Makes  nice addition to the system.

Thanks again for all your help!

Re: XASTIR unable to start interface

Charles Blackburn <wx4cb@...>

you shouldn't be running suid root. they put that in ther to work around a permissions issue which is what is the underlying factor.

i'm not at home right now (omw to hamcation) to check mine, but as long as the devices and the program are in the same user group you can 775 them and there shouldn't be an issue with permissions.

I have all my stuff in a "radio" group along with the users and have no issues.

that to use AX.25 the xastir run time file must be setuid.

sudo su
cd /usr/local/bin
chmod u+s xastir

After the xastir binary permissions should look like this:
ls -al
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 1178192 Jan 6 13:34 xastir

Also you could try using Xaster interface AGWPE localhost:8000.

I will add this to the Xastir install script.

/var/log/direwolf/direwolf.log)
3. APRS position beacon sent ok (verified with aprsfi).

Again, I have had XASTIR operating successfully using the same XASTIR
interface setup with earlier versions of the Compass image.
I wonder if there is some other parameter(s) that I have forgotten about.

Thankls,
John KM7LJ

Basil,

I tried the first, setuid solution. Also worked like a charm.

As always, many thanks for your support.

sudo su

After the xastir binary permissions should look like this:
ls -al

Also you could try using Xaster interface AGWPE localhost:8000.

I will add this to the Xastir install script.

Re: Nixtracker

Just remember, if gpsd is running and connected to /dev/ttySC0 then you should access it via the gpsd socket.  If you are going direct to /dev/ttysSC0 then gpsd should be stopped.

Not sure why this library is missing. It is spelled out in the xs_install.sh
script.

To fix do this:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libgeotiff-dev

To be safe I would install all the packages required by Xastir maps.
sudo apt-get install shapelib libshp-dev libgeotiff-dev libwebp-dev libgraphicsmagick1-dev

I'm a bit late in this discussion, but if you're looking for a quick and sure way to set up a hotspot on a DRAWS image try KM4ACK's youtube video. His scripts do all the work.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMT-0mz1lkI

Hi John,

With version 15 I am unable to load XASTIR, either via the XASTIR
desktop icon, or invoking directly from the folder
/usr/local/bin. Using the desktop icon the busy icon appears for
approximately 20 seconds, then nothing. The direct approach serves up
the following error:

error while loading shared libraries: libgeotiff.so.2
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Not sure why this library is missing. It is spelled out in the xs_install.sh
script.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libgeotiff-dev

sudo apt-get install shapelib libshp-dev libgeotiff-dev libwebp-dev libgraphicsmagick1-dev

Thus, am I correct in assuming image v15 is missing a library, and if
so how do I find the correct package(s) and load/install?

Thanks for all the hard work you put in to supporting DRAWS/RPi.

Re: Nixtracker

Basil Gunn

Thanks for trying out nixtracker

I have Nixtracker running on my pi 3b with draws hat installed. I have
two radios connected. UDR0 is attached to a radio on our local packet
freq and runs a Winlink Gateway. UDR1 is connected to a radio on our
local aprs freq.
I am able to see aprs info on the Nixtracker on
another machine.
Great!

However in the Sats window I have Zero sats. the
window reports nodata. gpsd is running on the Pi and has a good
lock.
Link following is the commit for zero sats problem fixed for the DRAWS
gps device about 10 days ago.

https://github.com/n7nix/nixtracker/commit/15ec32a5c05a3e7aa84d5defcae1abe26177c4f5

Below are the instructions for updating the nixtracker source. I will
have a script that does this by the end of the day. Also make sure the
port = line in the [gps] section is commented out in the nixtracker
config file.

The change is in a C file so you will need to get the new file and
rebuild. In the config file /etc/tracker/aprs_tracker.ini make sure
in the [gps] section that 'port =' line is commented out like this:

#port = /dev/ttyUSB0

To get new source file, rebuild & install.

cd
cd dev/nixtracker
git pull
make
cp aprs ~/bin
cd
cd bin
sudo ./tracker-down
sudo cp ~/dev/nixtracker/aprs /usr/local/bin
sudo ./tracker-up

The nixtracker web page should display an 1006 error, you should be able
to refresh the page & have the tracker running again.

/Basil n7nix

I read in this forum that there is something that needs to be
done to make this work but it appears those instructions were taken
offline.

The other question I have is there a way in the MSG tab to select
which port on draws the aprs message goes out?
When an ax.25 app (like nixtracker) starts up it binds to an ax.25
socket which requires a physical port. So there is no easy way to select
a port other than changing the 'port =' parameter in the [ax25] section
in the nixtracker config file & restarting the app.

Compass image V15, XASTIR, Missing Library?

jgindc1@...

Basil,

I have recently returned to working with DRAWS and RPi.

In earlier image versions I had been able to load XASTIR (via the desktop icon) without any issues.

With version 15 I am unable to load XASTIR, either via the XASTIR desktop icon, or invoking  directly from the folder /usr/local/bin. Using the desktop icon the busy icon appears for approximately 20 seconds, then nothing. The direct approach serves up the following error:

error while loading shared libraries: libgeotiff.so.2
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I used sudo find / -name "libgeotiff*" with result of nothing found.

Using an earlier image version 13 which loads XASTIR, sudo find / -name "libgeotiff*" produced much output:

pi@draws:~ $ sudo find / -name "libgeotiff*"

Thus, am I correct in assuming image v15 is missing a library, and if so how do I find the correct package(s) and load/install?
