Re: setalsa for Yaesu FT-8900? #ax25 #ft-8900

Hi Jay,

I am trying to use an FT-8900
Which radio within the FT-9800, VHF/UHF or HF?

Jay S <jaystagnone@...> writes:

I am trying to use an FT-8900 and having some trouble with setup. I
used the spreadsheet and got bogged down trying to use
draws-manager. The manual shows data-in max input level 40mV p-p for
1200 bps and pin 5 maximum output 300 mV p-p.Spreadsheet gives PCM =
-7.5, LO = -6.0 if I'm using it right.

I tried using draws-manager to set these levels. The radio transmits but the signal sounds weak/funny and never gets any response from the gateway. It can copy beacons from the gateway. I suspect there's more I need to do to make it work with the 8900. I see several users who are connected to 8900, but no details of what they had to do. This leads me to 2 questions:

- Does somebody have a working setalsa script for the FT-8900R? Or maybe confirm what settings you're using?
- I tried to set up on port udr1. The setalsa scripts all seem to assume udr0. Is there a trick I'm missing to configure udr1?

I am able to use Alinco 110 (thanks for the setalsa, Basil) on this setup with APRS and paclink-unix. I have tried plugging the 8900 into udr1 and using the Alinco settings but the results are same, even if I change the analog and digital gain in Draws manager.

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

I think we should just move on & enjoy your setup.

I am going to assume that without doing a git pull which refreshes
hf_verchk.sh to the latest version that you can get a partial install
that will wedge the fldigi source refresh script.

The solution (aside from using the latest hf_verchk.sh) is to remove
all fldigi files & directories in /usr/local/src & re-run hf_verchk.sh

Enjoy fldigi, & thanks for your patience.

/Basil

Thanks for your patience and thanks for the console output!

I reverted the change I made to hf_verchk.sh since it appears to have
broken something else.
Could you please get the latest hf_verchk.sh script and try one more
time.

cd
cd n7nix
git pull
cd hfprogs
./hf_verchk.sh
./hf_verchk.sh -u

# Then to verify
./hf_verchk..sh

Thanks Mike and sorry this has taken so long to figure out.
As always, the more console output you can give me the easier it is for
me.

Re: Updated and running but... #winlink

Hi Craig,

If you run the following from a console you should see your call sign in the RMS
List on the Winlink site almost immediately when the configuration is correct.

sudo -u rmsgw rmsgw_aci

You might also take a look in log files /var/log/rms.debug or
/var/log/rms for any errors related to connecting to Winlink Web
Service.

I know I've had a problem in the past with owner:group of the
/etc/rmsgw/stat directory so you might want to check that out with an:

ls -al /etc/rmsgw/stat

I kept your notes from the first time that I setup the system and
they were very helpful.
Thank you. I appreciate that.

Thanks Basil.

The Pi is connected to the internet, I can browse the web, update files and I can watch the gateway connect to Winlink. I also get ingoing and outgoing traffic (tested again this morning after running the scripts).

In the end, I'm not THAT worried about this small issue since anyone that would want to use my gateway knows about it, it would just be nice to see it populate on the map and RMS list. I'll check back in a little while to see if Winlink.org updates and populates the data.

Craig

P.S. I kept your notes from the first time that I setup the system and they were very helpful.

Craig,

The stat directory in /etc/rmsgw might have the wrong owner &
group.

Re: Backups and Updates

I made a change to the hf_verchk.sh script that should force a new
download & build when the built version doesn't match the latest source
version. This will happen if your build fails for some reason.

Get the latest scripts
cd
cd n7nix
git pull

# Now check versions

cd hfprogs
./hf_verchk.sh

# Try an update

./hf_verchk.sh -u

# This should force a new download & build.

If this doesn't work I will need to see all of your console output to
figure out what your build problem is. You have plenty of swap space to
build fldigi.

Re: Backups and Updates

Without seeing all of your console output I can't really comment on what
went wrong in your case. I went to one of testing RPi's and did the
following & it worked successfully. It takes a while to build FLdigi &
FLrig.

I am going to guess you didn't use the latest version of hf_verchk.sh
which sets the file system swap size to something that works for the
fldigi build. It does this without requiring a reboot. From my console
output you can see that flrig & fldigi both needed updating and both
succeeded.

Send me the output of:

cd
cd n7nix/hfprogs
./hf_verchk.sh -s

This is what I did to update my HF programs

cd
cd n7nix
git pull
