Latest NWDR RPi image, current_image.img.xz has been updated to
nwdr18.img.xz at this location:
http://images.nwdigitalradio.com/downloads

This is the 4th image release this year. See the ChangeLog
(https://github.com/nwdigitalradio/n7nix/blob/master/ChangeLog) for
more information about what has changed.

To update your current image without using the new image the following
procedure will get you most of the changes. In a console on your
Raspberry Pi type the following:

**Back-up files you would rather not lose first**

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
cd
cd n7nix
git pull
cd config
./bin_refresh.sh

You can verify & update program versions with these scripts:
./bbs/bbs_verchk.sh
./xastir/xs_verchk.sh
./ax25/ax_verchk.sh
./gps/gp_verchk.sh
./hfprogs/hf_verchk.sh

The hf_verchk.sh script will update to current versions of these HAM
programs. js8call wsjtx fldigi flrig flmsg flamp fllog flxmlrpc

Hello Basil & Group:

I have not used the DRAWS image or HW since image v14.

Would you please reference the starting guide with the v18 image and a new installation in mind?

Thanks,

BatteriesPlus carries them. Looks like they have a presence in Australia.

I agree.

The battery type can also be found by searching the forum messages here:
groups.io udrc group:

https://nw-digital-radio.groups.io/g/udrc/search?q=backup+battery

Also in the udrc wiki: Setup GPSD for Time and Position
https://nw-digital-radio.groups.io/g/udrc/wiki/8542

The battery is a CR1220 3V Lithium cell.

Because I live on an island and due to COVID-19 restrictions I buy my
CR1220 batteries from Amazon:

RTC battery: could we add that information to the DRAWS product page

Stuart Longland VK4MSL

Hi all,

The other day I was in the supermarket, in the battery isle, and
remembered I still hadn't bought an RTC battery for the DRAWS board I have.

So, phone in one hand, I try looking around on the NWDR website, to see
if I could quickly uncover this information. After about 10 minutes I
gave up. I know it's in the schematic, but trying to pull that up on a
480×800 display that's barely the size of my hand is not exactly easy.

There's a few cell types which have similar names (CR1220, CR1225) and
the cell type which the DRAWS uses is not exactly common here in
Australia from what I've seen. It might make it easier though if the
product page spells out what sort of cell the RTC battery supports.

Regards,

The latest run of the ThumbDV has run into component availability issues with oscillators showing 20 week lead time. We have sourced an alternate programmable oscillator which is being qualified now. Assuming all goes well, we will be shipping first week of December.

Re: RMS-Gateway How do I update the frequency advertised on Winlink.org

Basil Gunn

Follow-up: I though by updating the channels.xml file with a new
frequency it would also eventually update what's listed on winlink.org
( http://winlink.org ) rms map and rms list.
The channels.xml file is used by rmschanstat which is a bash script. The
C program rmsgw_aci calls the rmschanstat bash script.
To test the Winlink automatic check-in process which updates information
displayed on winlink.org website do the following:

cd
cd n7nix/rmsgw
./chk_wlaci.sh

Post ALL the console output of the above command.

Mine has not updated in over 24 hours.
Any suggestions on how to get
that frequency information updated ?

Re: RMS-Gateway How do I update the frequency advertised on Winlink.org

Brendan, after a reboot when you look at the file is it showing your modifications or not? If you find the file has reverted then what follows is the likely cause.

One thing I have had happen is a glitch on the SD Card and this causes it to go to a read-only mode. In this state you can read, write, and modify files, even install entirely new applications that will run until you restart the system at which point all the modifications vanish as the were only stored in a virtual swap file.

The way I solved the problem was to image the SD Card to a new SD card and that cleared the read-only state. If you are only running the RMS Gateway, I would suggest either use your backup - if you have one - or rebuild using a new card with a new image from scratch. This will probably take much less time that working to troubleshoot the problems with the existing system

Well, I can edit the file...

cd /etc/rmsgw

sudo nano channels.xml
Ctr X to exit
Y to Overwrite
Enter to keep file name

sudo reboot

and then it reverts back to the old information I am attempting to update.

where might it be getting that data from on the reboot?

I confirm my edits to channels.xml before the reboot

Re: RMS-Gateway How do I update the frequency advertised on Winlink.org

Brendan, something must be confused as when I do what you show below I am able to edit the file without a problem.

Suggestion:

cd /etc/rmsgw/

then type sudo nano chan
(then complete the line using the tab key. This should stop at "channels.x" and then you can type an "m" followed again by the tab key and have it complete.)

This will make sure that you do not have a typo and the file is actually in the selected path. Once you verify that it should open an edit without any problem.

Thanks,
-Corky

Lastly, you can get functionality using quadnet at https://www.openquad.net/start.php  it does not require a password.
