Re: DRAWS Image 15 and Xastir

Thanks Basil,

It worked. But when I went to wrap things up for my style of operating with raspbian LINUX, I tried to install synaptic and xscreensaver. Both attempts started by retrieving and failed at the extracting steps with a "dpkg returned an error code (2)".

Fortunately XASTIR still starts and runs as do other apps, so I am not totally hamstrung.

See error message detail below:

For Synaptic install - when unpacking:
"Selecting previously unselected package libcairo-perl.
dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
files list file for package 'rpi-eeprom-images' contains empty filename
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)"

For Xscreensaver install - when unpacking:
"Selecting previously unselected package libglade2-0:armhf.
dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
files list file for package 'rpi-eeprom-images' contains empty filename
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)"

I tried several of the dpkg recovery suggestions from online raspbian help sources, but none did the trick so I could continue with the installations. Are there any tricks to bring *dpkg* back to its senses or rebuild the specified files with empty filenames?

Thanks for responding even if I am off topic here...

My error was
"xastir: error while loading shared libraries:> libgeotiff.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory"
Yep. I confirm that's also what I see.

so I'll back up unless and try again unless you plan to
change the image so those steps are not needed.
This is easily fixed with what I previously posted so will not be
releasing a new image for that. The xs_install.sh script already fixes
this problem.

sudo su
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get -y -qq install shapelib libshp-dev libgeotiff-dev libwebp-dev
libgraphicsmagick1-dev

Did not exactly follow that but did "some".

Hi Jack,

The following is what I did from a clean install of image15 to get Xastir to run.
I tried to run Xastir from just a clean install & I received this error:

xastir: error while loading shared libraries: libgeotiff.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

After doing the following Xastir ran fine.

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get -y -qq install shapelib libshp-dev libgeotiff-dev libwebp-dev libgraphicsmagick1-dev
shutdown -r now

Thanks Jack.

If you can't get xastir to start from clicking the desktop icon then
open a console and run xastir from the console. Doing this will display
any problems that may be occurring that you won't see from clicking the
desktop icon.

I'll do a fresh install later today to see if I can replicate.

Did I miss a posting about this? Had trouble getting XASTIR to load
following the install and configure checklist/instructions in the group

I finally got a chance (well, was forced by an apparent image 14 SD card
brainfart) to load and configure DRAWS image 15. I was taking consulting
calls and doing a pile of paperwork concurrently, so I beg idiocy and broken
focus.

The load and configure went just fine until after Direwolf was configured
and I tried to launch and configure XASTIR. I could not get it to come up
using the icon or the console. I did do all reboots as required in the
checklist.

I wish I had been less busy and had recorded exactly what I tried during my
salvage attempt but the sequence was something like:

1. used APT to attempt an update - failed saying a library was missing
("maria***.lib" or something like it)
2. used the repair option and it failed, missing the same library
3. one of the error messages suggested a full system update and to try
again, update succeeded.
4. Repair option then worked and XASTIR started.

Basil, I am kicking myself that I did not write things down. I can't
remember if this image enables an install log by default. If so will be glad
to send it.

XASTIR is happily working in spite of all that so priority is more for
others than for me.

I have reset the radio, and have used DM to set the ALSA parameters.

IN1 L:[Off] R:[Off]
IN2 L:[10 kOhm] R:[10 kOhm]
CM L:[10 kOhm] R:[10 kOhm]
pi@DRAWS-VK4GC:~ $

Made new mD6 cable (actually removed pin 6 from one end of a standard cable)

Using another receiver to test output.

Result is harsh audio with very faint expected modulation sounds underneath.
Insufficient to register any power out on the FT817 with a 100mw power mete attached.
Both cables had same result.

FT817 works perfectly for FT8 on all other configurations - Rigblaster on PC, or Pi with USB card (a la KM4ACK build)

I want to get the hat working as it would integrate perfectly inside my uBITXv6 case - elegant.

What can I try next?

Cheers

Re: DRAWS FT817 no TX audio

Another suggestion is to do a hard reset on the FT-817 itself to make sure none of the internal settings for audio / accessory port have been changed.

I note in the Github link you are using mDi6 Pin3 for PTT.  I am using USB Cat cable.  That part is all good.
I would guess the aim with GPIO 12 > mD6/3 PTT is to eliminate a cable. Good idea, but PTT is not my problem.

Does any other suggestions?

Thanks so far

Tested above - still modulated carrier.

Since you are using some HF digital mode you should stick with mDin6 pin
5 AFOUT. You configure DISC or AFOUT with your radio and alsa
configuration. They need to match each other.

Still the same 2 radios - ft817 and uBITXv6 (uBITX thinks it is a FT817 for WSJTX purposes)

Both radios work fine with another Pi USB audio RXTX perfect.

ON DH the Cat works great. FT817 has USB ct62, uBITX6 has direct USB

With the DH, RX great full decode. TX on wsjtx keys transmitter but no audio. (confirmed using another receiver - just low hum - full carrier)

Using a cable with pins 1,2,4,5 present. Cable Good.

Tried on both radios

Great for WSPR reporting but not for TX on any digital.

J P,
Sorry for the lag.

I am jealous that you are working on this as I'm trying to complete some
other things at the moment. I really want to get URONODE & LinFBB BBS up on my
packet infrastructure machine.

I think uronode is well maintained and their docs are more up-to-date
than what's in the n7nix uronode install script.

Let us know how you make out with setting up uronode and getting the
node search plugin to work.

None of them, there's a separate port on the DRAWS that gives you a
TTL-level UART serial port.

THAT, is what you want for doing CAT. Or you provide a separate cable
hooked up via USB.

I'll ultimately be doing something similar with mine: plan is to use a
RTL-SDR to scan for activity and use the CAT interface on my FT-857D to
switch the VFO to that frequency to give me dual-watch capabilities,
APRS and WiFi operation from my phone; as it would seem a FM/SSB set
capable of HF/VHF/UHF doesn't exist.
