Re: Split Channel

John Spoonhower

Basil and others,
I am trying to create a split channel system using my DRAWS board but not having success. I am running the current NW16 image on a Pi3.
I have installed pulseaudio as per the github page. https://github.com/nwdigitalradio/split-channels. Also copied the supplied files from the master /etc directory to their appropriate /etc points. /etc/direwolf.conf has been edited to appear as:
ADEVICE plughw:CARD=udrc,DEV=0 plughw:CARD=udrc,DEV=0
ACHANNELS 2
ARATE 48000
CHANNEL 0
#MYCALL N0CALL-1
MYCALL NX2I-1
MODEM 1200
PTT GPIO 12

I also enabled pulseaudio with:
sudo systemctl enable pulseaudio
Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/pulseaudio.service → /etc/systemd/system/pulseaudio.service.
pi@draws:~ $ sudo systemctl status pulseaudio
● pulseaudio.service - PulseAudio Daemon
Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/pulseaudio.service; enabled; vendor prese
   Active: inactive (dead)
so it's enabled but not started....

then ran the split_chan.sh script:

pi@draws:~/n7nix/splitchan $ sudo ./split_chan.sh
Running as root
Service: pulseaudio is already stopped
./split_chan.sh: line 506: ax25-stop: command not found
./split_chan.sh: line 507: ax25-start: command not found
Service: direwolf is NOT enabled and NOT running

so I then tried to check the status:
pi@draws:~/n7nix/splitchan $ sudo ./split_status.sh

Port config file exists split channel is DISabled
Service: pulseaudio is enabled and NOT running
Direwolf is NOT running
Check: ADEVICE plughw:CARD=udrc,DEV=0 plughw:CARD=udrc,DEV=0
Check: ARATE parameter already set to 48000 in direwolf config file.
Number of direwolf channels: 2

given the earlier failure to run ax25-start, I figured this was the problem, so,...
pi@draws:~/bin $ sudo ./ax25-start
Enter user name (pi tmp ), followed by [enter]: pi

STARTING AX.25/Direwolf: port 0: 1200 & port1: 1200 baud modems.
Starting: direwolf.service
ENABLING direwolf.service
Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/direwolf.service → /etc/systemd/system/direwolf.service.
Starting: ax25dev.path
ENABLING ax25dev.path
Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/ax25dev.path → /etc/systemd/system/ax25dev.path.
Starting: ax25dev.service
ENABLING ax25dev.service
Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/ax25dev.service → /etc/systemd/system/ax25dev.service.
Starting: ax25-mheardd.service
ENABLING ax25-mheardd.service
Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/ax25-mheardd.service → /etc/systemd/system/ax25-mheardd.service.

This never completed. I had to cntrl-c to get out...

This is where I am currently stuck!

Any help is appreciated,
73, John, NX2I

Re: Connecting and immediate disconnect #winlink

Basil Gunn

Craig,

I won't know much until I see some console output from the RMS Gateway
device.

If I had to guess, since N0CSM-10 is not showing up in the Winlink packet
RMS list, you did not configure the Winlink Automatic Check-in properly.

If your gateway call sign (N0CSM-10) is not used to "check-in" with
Winlink web services on a regular basis your call sign gets dropped from
Winlink's valid gateway list after around a year & a month. Among other
things your Raspberry Pi gateway needs to be connected to the Internet
for the "check-in" to work.

To verify this guess, get my latest scripts and send me the console output of
the following from your raspberry pi:

cd
cd n7nix
git pull

cd rmsgw
./chk_wlaci.sh

/Basil n7nix

Craig McVeay <cmcveay@gmail.com> writes:

Using the most recent image file (downloaded today, new image setup) and everything appears to be running properly until I connect to the RMS Gateway. On the Client end, I see this:

*** Starting to call N0CSM-10
*** Opening serial port COM4; 9600 baud; Kenwood TH-D7/D72 A-Band
*** Connecting to N0CSM-10
*** Connected to N0CSM-10 at 2020/06/16 01:52:30

*** Connected to N0CSM-10 at 2020/06/16 01:52:32

*** Disconnected at 2020/06/16 01:52:38

*** Disconnect reported.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Craig

Maybe I should take a road trip out to your place when it's not raining. I have a couple Pi 4 cases. Get the Draws to work.

Waiting patiently for the case.

It has now been 14 months since I ordered the case along with the external GPS.   I was willing to be patient for what I feel is a very long time.   I've seen the messages saying that if you get fed up you may cancel your order.  It would have been good at some point in the past year to get a more substantial message... like "we have no time frame whatsoever for fulfilling these orders"

I know its an early adopter program, but still... absent any kind of customer service sort of message, it's hard not to see this as either willing indifference or perhaps even fraud.  I'm going to try and tell myself it is the "willing indifference" one.   Fourteen months, guys.  It's been long enough. Your paying supporters deserve a little more explanation than a link to request a refund.

I came up with an alternative case long ago.  I would have liked to try the GPS I ordered from you, but I guys I will chalk this all up to having helped fund an interesting project.  Maybe in the end thats all this has ever been about. FWIW, I would have a far more favorable opinion of NW Digital had I simply been told my $32 was going to help fund improvements and I was never going to see the case or GPS.

Ditto.  I punted for a more capable solution and certainly no longer
need the case -- assuming it was ever in any danger of shipping.
