Question HW and SW
Hello community,
I have a question whether such a constellation would work? Linux -- RPI -- UDRC HAT -- (Radio equipment) <-------> (Radio equipment) -- UDRC HAT -- RPI -- Linux How the radio equipment would wire now with the HAT UDRC? I would like to make a BASH script from the console an send some text. As software MINIMODEM is supposed to run the tool. http://www.whence.com/minimodem/ Software steps in the Script: - Text convert to WAV (audio file) - wait - push the PTT - wait - play Audio ... Thanks for help. Bye Markus

Assuming the pinouts are compatible, I'll be 100% going for one. I've been experimenting with the Pi3 while waiting for my DRAWS to ship (*drums fingers on desk*) and I've felt it a bit wanting in CPU. I'm not sure if I can run gqrx and wsjtx/fldigi at the same time without killing the CPU.

I have the data cable plugged in and I've used data/pkt successfully before. This is why this is so frustrating... it used to work and now nothing works. I'll have to see what I can rig up to run with the measure_deviate script and report back.

All very good answers so far. But since you specifically asked for my opinion, I guess I should oblige... HAM is "A hobby of a thousand hobbies", so even though your radio has a built in sound card, and wasn't really built for mobile operation... DRAWS might be a "cheap" GPS option. With the capabilities this Hat offers, the community might offer better features in the future that you can't live without. For me, I'm looking to build out a mobile station with "DC to Daylight" and all the apps that go with it. Eventually I'd like to do APRS, FLDigi for transmitting both data and files, chase satellites and even some CW in the park. If you find value in using the Pi platform for Rig Control and WSJT-X digital modes only, then you probably won't need the DRAWS hat. I can't really even begin to list off all the things that could be explored through this platform. Would be great if there was an open Wiki were we could contribute some documentation and experiences. How long would the list be? I already own a signalink and I got the hat to use in place of the signalink... but in my defense, none of the radios I own have a built in soundcard.

Radio: FT-891

Do you have the cable from the DRAWS board plugged into the back of your radio? ie. from the wsjtx doc "Choose Data/Pkt if your radio offers such an option and uses it to enable the rear-panel audio line input." I think Data Mode: USB uses the microphone & speaker outputs so I wouldn't use that. Have you tried Data Mode: None This prevents wsjtx from changing your radio mode setting. Use the measure_deviate.sh script to verify you are able to send a tone out your radio. ie. Use a second radio tuned to the transmit frequency of the first radio. Get this working first as it is basic functionality you can build on. /Basil

>Debug?" thread? It was running fine after I ran my ft-891 script a few weeks ago, and it got better after I ran it again... but doesn't work 100%. From the audio debug thread, I thought I had it working, but I didn't... I can either decode or I can transmit (by switching modes in WSJT-X), but since I can't do "both", I can't have a successful QSO. The measure_deviate script runs, but other than putting info on the screen, doesn't actually do anything. alsa_show results are above. This is a continuation of the audio debug thread with some new information and a picture of the waterfall. Since I closed out that thread early, I wanted to start a new thread. DATA MODE: OTHERS PSK TONE: 1000Hz OTHER DISP: 0Hz
OTHER SHIFT: 0Hz PSK/OTHERS: Don't appear to have this one. I would imagine that you guys don't have every radio, but I was hoping to be of some help with audio settings and providing a script that works (used to anyway) for future releases. I sent in the details from Yaesu and my interpretation of translating them for the setalsa-X script after the contest a couple of months ago. For grins I did a factory reset of the radio, nothing changed. I can reload the DRAWS SD card, but I'm not sure that would really have any effect either. I'm at a loss of what to even attempt to change/fix next. Symptoms: WSJT-X set to "Data Mode: USB" gives me decode and "open mic". I can not transmit successfully in this setting. PTT opens, but no carrier/signal is sent. I can tell this by my external signal meter not moving, the SWR meter on the radio doesn't move and the tuner doesn't budge. WSJT-X set to "Data Mode: Data/PKT" gives me lousy decode, maybe 1 or 2 per cycle instead of the normal amount of a "screenful". PTT opens, carrier and signal are sent. SWR meter bounces, external signal meter moves and the tuner will tune if the radio is out of range. You can see the difference in these two modes in the waterfall pic I sent before. Not for any particular reason, but these are just my observations.

Hi Jim,
My apologies for the slow response. There will be days or weeks this summer where I will be unable to respond to the forum since I will be hiking & camping, etc. When you have a new problem it is better if you start a new thread in the forum rather than replying to the last message you sent. Also please include your console output along with a description of your problem. Providing the console output of running flrig from the command line would have been helpful. I can't find any reference to libjped.so.9. I think you mean libjpeg.so.9. If you search the groups.io udrc forum for libjpeg you will find your answer. https://nw-digital-radio.groups.io/g/udrc/message/3285?p=,,,20,0,0,0::relevance,,libjpeg,20,2,0,31250917 I tried to apt-get insall flrig and it says already installed. Most of the HF apps either do NOT have a package or have a very stale version that you can install. They are updated by their authors often & I have a script that tracks their version to keep your RPi image current with the latest changes for those programs. You can see which programs I build from source here: https://github.com/nwdigitalradio/n7nix/blob/master/docs/IMAGE_README.md If you want to check that your installed HF programs are current then run: prog_refresh.sh -c js8call: current version: 1.0.1, installed: 1.0.1 wsjtx: current version: 2.0.1, installed: 2.0.1 Library: libflxmlrpc IS loaded. flxmlrpc: current version: 0.1.4, installed: 0.1.4 fldigi: current version: 4.1.03, installed: 4.1.03 flrig: current version: 1.3.45, installed: 1.3.45 flmsg: current version: 4.0.8, installed: 4.0.8 flamp: current version: 2.2.04, installed: 2.2.04 xastir: current version: 2.1.1, installed: 2.1.1 gp_verchk.sh: Detected gpsd package. gpsd: current version: 3.18.1, installed: 3.18.1 If you want to update the HF programs then run prog_refresh.sh -u This script could take a very long time (hours) depending upon how many programs will be updated ie. built form source. If you have problems please cut & paste all of the console output in an email to me. /Basil okiejim <kd6vpe@gmail.com> writes: I tried to apt-get insall flrig and it says already installed. Strange Behavior

In FT8, there are two modes, one is "Data" which is supposed to use the rear port on the radio and the other is "USB"... I'm not sure what this is supposed to use, but it opens the MIC to ambient noise. In the image below, you can see where there is a "normal" waterfall (USB) mode and a "splatter" (Data) Radio: FT-891 I had this working fine before, now its "lousy"... I haven't changed or upgraded anything. The only thing I did was to start messing around with a UHF rig on the other port (which is unplugged and put away for now). My "setalsa" levels are: sset 'PCM' -3dB,-3dB sset 'ADC Level' 0.0dB,0.0dB sset 'LO Driver Gain' -6.0dB,-6.0dB any ideas what might be going wrong now?

Thank you Basil,e I will look into the pin 6 issue further then. Last night I did get it to send a tone from FT-8 screen with the tone button. I only saw it on the radio. Was not able to verify it send anything but I'm pretty sure it did. This was a one time shot though. The next time I hit the button no output. Had to restart software and radio and it went once. Might just be the SQL. I will try somemore today. I really is most likely me. These new things take awhile for me to comprehend these days. I also tried to get the flrig gui to come up but unsuccessful with that. FLdigi comes up. What have I missed here?

Hi,
Your console output of showudrc.sh shows the device is running as expected. Which radio are you using (Yaesu FT-847?) Are you using the 2M/440 radio in that radio? Assuming you are, check the direwolf/ax25 status, run this command from your console ax25-status Send me the console output. All processes should read RUNNING and ENABLED If they are not then run ax25-start Send me the console output of this as well. I am not sure about the FT-847 but on the FT-817 I tested I had to remove the squelch pin (pin 6) on the mDin6 connector but that was for HF SSB AFSK operation. I have lost my audio output.Just to be clear I am assuming you are talking about the DRAWS audio codec and not the on-board RPi audio codec? /Basil Sorry I guess the attachment did not work yesterdat

I have lost my audio output. I noticed I was no longer showing up on aprs.fi. I just started using beta13. I went to ft-8 to use tone on 2m fm. I can not hear a tone on my other rig. PTT is fine and radio is keyed up. I hear that on other rig. I have attached my showudrc.sh file. I see dmesg showing codec not registering is this what is wrong?
