Hi Corky, The current "buster" seems to work fine at my place with the N7NIX script. I find clean installs work best, but Pi 4/Buster are still leading edge.

The main difference I see, and may be the culprit is the sudo apt dist-upgrade The dist-upgrade may be introducing the conflict, I just do an upgrade.

Frank, I did the install on 3B+, so I needed unpack and setup a Pi 4 (4GB) to verify it ran there as well. I just moved over the SD Card to test. Installation (using the 3B+) git clone https://github.

Did you reboot after the steps? Then do the aplay -l? The script is by Basil, N7NIX -- it worked for me.

no PTT with FT857D, DRAWS HAT and 6 pin miniDIN cable
I am not where I can look right now, but seem to recall WSJT (FT8) does not implement GPIO PTT, so you have to use CAT through hamlib or VOX. Fldigi has a setting for GPIO PTT on a tab beyond the CAT

At first blush, what you are describing isn't practical. DMR uses the AMBE vocoder to pass voice communications and it will not reproduce tones for the modems typically used for Winlink communications
