Thanks Dave, I did in fact have a clear view to the sky and waited at least 15 minutes, I have experience with gpsmon and the program never started. i.e. never got the screen that starts with /dev/tty

Paul, If you didn't change anything having to do with gpsd and it started working later, this usually indicates that the gps wasn't locked before: 1. The gps loses ephemeris data if the board is power
