Hello,

I use the Elecraft KX3 and installed the NW-image on my Pi4 and went straight forward the steps of the instructions. All run smooth but not the audio. Here are my checks:

if I call wsjtx there is an error "locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid"

So I stopped any further configuration 

Any ideas folks

The console output you posted looks OK. Except for this:
alsa-show.sh
==== List All sound card device names (1)

Undefined sound card
which could be a locale problem as I parse out the sound card names from
aplay -l. The parser is biased towards English (sorry) and is most
likely choking on:

Gerät or Karte

After doing a quick check this is the offending line in alsa-show.sh
You can see that it looks for 'card' instead of 'Karte' on line 341 of
the alsa-show.sh script. Try editing the script changing "^card " with
"^Karte ".

sndcard_names="$(aplay -l | grep "^card " | cut -f1 -d',')


Thanks for the aplay -l output I will use it to see what alsa-show.sh
parses out of it.

I think things look OK but could you also give me the console output of buginfo.sh

Hi Basil,

thanks for the hint. So it is a language problem :-) I changed the language on the raspberry pi from German to English to avoid future problems with tolls and language. Here is the output and below the bug info - no idea what the errors in the boot fail check are. I went through the installation but without to config the packet part now. I can not check the audio with my KX3 cause I'm waiting for the cables.

The error in wsjtx is a known one, now I can start it:
WSJT-X release 2.3.0 will give an error on startup with a message about the en_US.UTF-8 locale not being found. This is because a default install of Raspberry Pi OS has very few locales installed. This is easily rectified by the following two lines executed on a terminal:

sudo sed -i "s/# en_US.UTF-8/en_US.UTF-8/g" /etc/locale.gen

sudo locale-gen

Hi Erwin,
All your console output looks good!

I recently setup wsjt-x and js8call using a DRAWS card and have the
following notes using HAMLib/rigctl. In the wsjt-x/js8call config I set
my rig to 'Hamlib NET rigctl'

Also you will want to config your ALSA settings that control deviation.
There should be a script that will program those settings for a KX2 in your
local bin. This would be a good place to start for your KX3.

$ which setalsa-kx2.sh
/home/pi/bin/setalsa-kx2.sh

# It should be in your PATH so just run:

setalsa-kx2.sh

# then verify settings with:

alsa-show.sh

no idea what the errors in the boot fail check are.
What you are seeing is just a grep for the word 'fail' in dmesg
output. (Run dmesg from a console prompt to see what I am talking about)
I have seen errors for the Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet controller before
and I think the enet clocks show up at a later time in the boot process
so those errors are benign.

Let me know how you make out once your cables arrive.

I was not able to set frequency on the KX3

When I set the rig as KX3 instead of: Hamlib NET rigctl and Audio to alsa,input ... and alsa.output ... then I could set the frequency from the Pi and PPT was also running. But of course can't check the audio.

I did setalsa and the result looks fine, but have to wait for the audio cables.

Hamlib error: IO error while opening connection to rig
I was not able to set frequency on the KX3
I need to change my doc as you need start the rigctl daemon first. Also
you need to see what the baud rate (-s) is set to for on your KX3 rig
control.

-s Assuming the baud rate is 19200 bps.
-m rig number for KX3

rigctld-wsjtx -m 2045 -r /dev/ttyUSB0 -s 19200 -P GPIO -p 12

All of the above doesn't really matter if you have rig control working
using native wsjt-x. I think I used HAMlib so that the rig control config for
js8call & wsjt-x were similar.

vc4-drm gpu: HDMI-A-1: EDID is invalid:
This error relates to the kind of video monitor you are using. Some
monitors do not report a valid EDID so you have to set HDMI parameters in the
/boot/config.txt file.

When I set the rig as KX3 instead of: Hamlib NET rigctl and Audio to
alsa,input ... and alsa.output ... then I could set the frequency from
the Pi and PPT was also running. But of course can't check the audio.

I did *setalsa* and the result looks fine, but have to wait for the audio cables.

a propagation thing. Also send the output of the following console command:

This is a symptom of:
- wrong serial device (/dev/ttyUSB0)
- correct serial device but wrong baud rate
- or stop bits, data bits
- I don't believe the KX3 rig control cable uses RTS or DTR

JS8call works now ... it was only bad reception. But the error when putting presets for ham radio in the terminal before I start JS8call or WSJTx is already present. Bought my KX3 from a HAM how sold his equipment and the cable from hammadeparts.

Yes I have had a few problems with pulseaudio since end of last year. I
am currently ignoring those errors as I do not use pulseaudio.

To effectively stop pulseaudio:

# get the latest version of my scripts.

./bin_refresh.sh

# Run the following script to disable pulseaudio

pa-ctrl.sh

My settings are in the attachment. FLrig, Fldigi, WSJTX and JS8Call are running. Settings on Hamlib, except FLrig is set on K3.

Hi Basil,

Thanks will combine this with my efforts to make an enhanced image for my needs (#5700). I described the error in #5690 - formated as it was in the terminal window. It is the problem, that I have to start the rigctld in the terminal two times to get it working - in between this two times I do nothing else, but afterwards it is running. You mentioned that I should remind you about the systemd service file for this step :-)

thank you very much for your support ... made the update - but problem is after changing the script to only use the KX3 I commented the other radios so only the KX3 line is active.

that's great ... I did this (below my steps and results). It is essential to stop AX25 before. Now the switch between Fldigi and WSJTX is smooth. Great script and very helpful.

My next steps are getting PAT running ... there I have to try out something cause it makes problems. DIREWOLF the same. But I come back when I can't find a solution.
