Original UDRC

N7MQ Steve

Hello All! I am trying to setup the original udrc for a DR-1X. I am running 1.00z firmware on the repeater, but the trouble I'm having is getting the urdc to work. I just got the urdcii to work at home with a kenwood 750. That setup was straight forward and easy. This setup with the udrc and the DR-1X seems to partially work. When I start dstarrepeater it will not acknowledge any digital traffic but will suspend RPT State when FM is keyed.

Anyway the error I'm getting is:

pi@compass:~ $ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: udrc [udrc], device 0: Universal Digital Radio Controller tlv320aic32x4-hifi-0 []
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
pi@compass:~ $ sudo ~/set-urdc-dr1x.sh
amixer: Mixer hw:0 load error: Remote I/O error
alsactl: get_control:256: Cannot read control '2,0,0,PCM Playback Volume,0': Remote I/O error

The card is recognized by the system but I'm getting a I/O error when I try and load the script. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve,
I've been running an original UDRC on a DR-1x for about a year and a half on a raspberry Pi 2, running Compass(Jessie). What do you see when you run alsamixer? Audio levels ( PCM, ADC) should be set to approx. 48(use this as your starting point).

hank for replying. I can not open alsamixer it gives me this error.

pi@compass:~ $ alsamixer
cannot load mixer controls: Remote I/O error

Hi Steve.

I'm afraid that I am at a loss... You could try installing alsamixer again (sudo apt-get install alsamixer), but likely something else is missing.
It may be easier (rather than working out this problem) just to start at ground zero again with a fresh install of compass.
Also, I forgot to ask...are you running a GUI or just the CLI?

Thanks. Right now I'm running the GUI for repeater and IRCDDB. But I'm trying to get the UDRC setup through the CLI. I think if I could get the UDRC to respond to alsamixer correctly I would be golden. I'll try installing alsamixer again and see if that gets me anywhere.

Send the output of

sudo gpio readall

Steve,

I was looking at GPIO.7, which looks OK.  Sometimes when this is designated as a different mode it indicates a problem communicating to the UDRC.

Have you tried a fresh install?  There may be something elsewhere in the OS causing the problem with alsamixer.

Well I've tried the web based install and a fresh install with an older image of compass and I still get the same error. "I/O error". There must be something wrong with my board. It is and original UDRC that has been knocking around. I'll get a different one and get it running then.
