paclink-unix incoming messages

Basil Gunn

With respect to incoming messages ending up in /usr/local/var/wl2k/output/, I don't know how to fix that. I thought that postfix was configured correctly by the scripts.

It is. I just tried a new install & things work the way I expect. Send me the output of these commands.

ls -alt /usr/local/var/wl2k/outbox
ls -alt ~/Mail/

Is it possible that building the latest paclink-unix broke the postfix config? No /Basil

Why do you think there are?

Can you reply to the winlink email I sent to you with mutt?

Hi Basil,

Some additional information. It appears that when I run wl2ktelnet multiple times, your last message to me via winlink alternates between getting delivered to the outbox and then getting deleted from the outbox. When the message gets posted to the outbox, there is an attempt to deliver it via sendmail to my gmail account. That doesn't seem right. Perhaps a clue to what's misconfigured?

Thanks,

Keith

Hi,

My configuration error was the "email" line in wl2k.conf. While trying to solve the winlink authentication issue, I had changed that to my gmail address to match the setting in Winlink Express.

Now I've changed the line in wl2k.conf to:
email=pi@localhost

That resolved the issue. Getting used to mutt now. Have changed the default compose editor from nano to vi so that bit's easier now.

Thanks a ton, Basil, for all your support and the great work you've done integrating paclink-unix into the DRAWS/UDRC images!

Why do you think there are?

Can you reply to the winlink email I sent to you with mutt?

My configuration error was the "email" line in wl2k.conf.
Yes good catch. email=pi@localhost is what it should be.

That resolved the issue. Getting used to mutt now. Have changed the default
compose editor from nano to vi so that bit's easier now.
I would like to help get claws-mail (or rainloop) working for you.
Although mutt is the easiest to configure & get operational.

Thanks..that would be great. Rainloop looks pretty nice.

For my use case, I'll generally be accessing winlink email from my laptop (XPS13 running Ubuntu 16.04). However, I'll also want to be able to access from RPi (although via VNC). I run all my RPi projects headless (except during initial bringup).

It would seem that getting dovecot configured would be the best route. Then I could access email from either the laptop or RPi using rainloop.

Does that make sense?

I agree. Plus you can do everything in a browser including paclink-unix
access, VNC isn't necessarily needed for remote operation.

If you installed paclink-unix then dovecot is already configured

The paclink-unix install, installs & configures: postfix, dovecot, mutt,
rainloop, claws-mail, nodejs & pluweb app.

Then
I could access email from either the laptop or RPi using rainloop.

Does that make sense?
Yes. You have a number of options:
local=running on RPi
- local or remote console using mutt
- local or remote web browser using rainloop & plu web app.
- local or remote using VNC & claws-mail
- remote using your mobile device mail app & RPi in host AP mode and
accessing paclink-unix with the web app. (I use K9 mail on my Android)

I ran "app_config.sh plu" not "app_config.sh pluimap". So are the above services configured? I haven't messed with any config
files you haven't specifically told me to modify.

We verified with netstat -tulpn that nothing is listening on ports 143 or 993.

I do see that pluweb is running. It seems to work fine to check outbox and run wl2k*.

The plu config script sets wl2k.conf like this:

## Set email=user_name@localhost

sed -i -e "s/^#email=.*/email=$USER@localhost/" $PLU_CFG_FILE

And your wl2k.conf file had your gmail account in it. How did that happen?

Can you determine if claws-mail has been installed?
Dovecot gets installed from claws-mail install script.
Is there a desktop icon for claws-mail?

If not perhaps that part of the script had a problem. Try installing claws-mail
separately and capture all the console output as user pi (not root)

cd
cd n7nix/email/claws
./claws_install.sh pi KF7DRV

I do see that pluweb is running. It seems to work fine to check outbox and

The plu config script sets wl2k.conf like this:

   ## Set email=user_name@localhost

   sed -i -e "s/^#email=.*/email=$USER@localhost/" $PLU_CFG_FILE

And your wl2k.conf file had your gmail account in it. How did that happen?

As I mentioned in my previous email, I was trying to get paclink to successfully authenticate. My callsign and password matched the working config of Winlink Express but the email address is my gmail address in WE but the email address in the wl2k.conf was pi@localhost. Was grasping at straws so changed it to match. Then after updating paclink to latest and resolving the issue, forgot to go back in and change it back. Doh. When retrieving a message from the CMS, I noticed the detail output from wl2ktelnet showing it invoking sendmail to my gmail address.

Yes, I have claws-mail on the desktop. However, Ill need to configure it based on:
once we have the IMAP server running.

Hi Basil,

I don't know how the dovecot 10-auth.conf file got scrozzled but I found CSV data from the WWARA repeater list appended. I ended up copying over it with the copy in /usr/share/dovecot/conf.d and after a reboot, dovecot comes up fine. However, I don't know what mods your install may have made to it to work in this environment.

Can you send me a copy of /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-auth.conf or is it identical to the one in /usr/sharedovecot/conf.d?

Thanks,

Keith

Hi Basil,

Thanks for the files.

I diff'd them with the installed files and only the 10-auth.conf had a needed change for auth_mechanisms:

pi@Compass:~/basil $ diff 10-auth.conf /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-auth.conf
10c10
< #disable_plaintext_auth = no
---
> #disable_plaintext_auth = yes
100c100
< auth_mechanisms = plain login
---
> auth_mechanisms = plain

The dovecot.conf file was only different in the postmaster_address:

pi@Compass:~/basil $ diff dovecot.conf /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
105c105
< postmaster_address = pi@beta13test
---
> postmaster_address = pi@Compass

I didn't update my current one since I'm assuming we want to stick with pi@... updating 10-auth.conf, I restarted the dovecot service, configured Claws and it came up fine.

Now just need to figure out rainloop config.

Like claws, I want to use this for my KF7DRV@... email. However, local delivery is to pi@Compass. I assume I still use localhost for both IMAP and SMTP. So when I add a new rainloop domain, do I create a winlink.org domain or a Compass domain?

Hi Basil,

I now have rainloop working correctly per the great instructions in ~/n7nix/email/rainloop/README.md.

Thanks for everything!

Hi Basil,

Thanks for the files.

I diff'd them with the installed files and only the 10-auth.conf had a needed change for auth_mechanisms:

pi@Compass:~/basil $ diff 10-auth.conf /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-auth.conf
10c10
< #disable_plaintext_auth = no
---
> #disable_plaintext_auth = yes
100c100
< auth_mechanisms = plain login
---
> auth_mechanisms = plain

The dovecot.conf file was only different in the postmaster_address:

pi@Compass:~/basil $ diff dovecot.conf /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
105c105
< postmaster_address = pi@beta13test
---
> postmaster_address = pi@Compass

I didn't update my current one since I'm assuming we want to stick with pi@... updating 10-auth.conf, I restarted the dovecot service, configured Claws and it came up fine.

Now just need to figure out rainloop config.

Like claws, I want to use this for my KF7DRV@... email. However, local delivery is to pi@Compass. I assume I still use localhost for both IMAP and SMTP. So when I add a new rainloop domain, do I create a winlink.org domain or a Compass domain?

You might try & run dovecot_config.sh from
n7nix/email/claws

I will attach the 4 files in another email to you.

You have to restart dovecot after changing the config files.
sudo systemctl restart dovecot

Now just need to figure out rainloop config.
https://github.com/nwdigitalradio/n7nix/tree/master/email/rainloop

rainloop is the trickiest client to configure. Follow the instructions
carefully.

Hi Basil,

Looks like you missed my follow up message from around noon today..have rainloop working fine.

Also emailed you at your winlink address from rainloop when I got it working.

This DRAWS image is awesome.

Final step is to get K-9 Mail configured on my Android devices.

Also thinking I need to write a script to run via cron (a variation of wlgw-check.sh) that will run wl2ktelnet if Internet is available and otherwise will try wl2kax25 to each of a prioritized list of RMS gateways (calling rigctl to setup the radio prior to each attempt).

Thanks,

Keith

Yes I was off island yesterday (I live on an island with ferry service)
running around so no computer/ham time.

Also emailed you at your winlink address from rainloop when I got it
working.
Excellent! Saw the message & replied.

This DRAWS image is awesome.
Thanks. It is set up to do a moose load of stuff.

I have notes on this some where. I'll look for them.

Also thinking I need to write a script to run via cron (a variation of

Sounds good. Happy to hear you are mucking around with the scripts.
